Hey forum! I faced a problem I'm not able to solve on my own, neither are my local mechanics. My fiat punto 188 with 1.2 8v engine started rattling like on the video, a while ago. Firstly I didn't care much, but now that I need to sell the car, I can't leave it in this state. Read somewhere, that this sound might be from the valves, touching the pistons. Sounds brutal to me, since I'd have lost power, and it would be visible after disassembling the engine. Now let's get to the repairs. 40K km ago I rebuilt the engine. The rattling started about 20-30K km before the repair. After that, I overheated the engine, then replaced the head, and skimmed it (the head was from a 230 000 car, from rear end accident, mine is 360 000 at the moment). The noise is the same. Yesterday, I checked the valve clearance, and it was 0.2mm off on the intake and same for the exhaust valves (only a couple of valves were off, the others were fine) I adjusted valve clearance, using secondhand plates, from my original head. All the valves are good except the intake on cylinder 2, the clearance there is between 0.2 and 0.3, I think it matches the 0.05mm tolerance. I think I explained my situation good enough, if I missed any detail let me know guys. Thank you!
