Just to provide a balanced view.... for every bad story you can find about PCSO's there are also good. Just like builders, plumbers, IT engineers, PC's etc.

Flood rescue training helps PCSO catch wanted man

PCSO stops train to rescue 10yr old Boy

PCSO helps rescue girls from fire

PCSO's commended for bravery

PCSO's rescue woman on runaway scooter

Ask any of the children/ victims in the above articles if they think PCSO's are a waste of money.

First link.

"The RNLI volunteer quickly dived into the river and by using specialist swift-water rescue techniques, brought him safely to land. After his rescue the man was arrested for questioning"

PCSO's dont have the power of arrest so a real police officer had to be on hand to do the real work.
He fell into a river and had to save himself, then had to save the guy he was chasing.

Please put your hands together for the RNLI volunteers. :woot:

Second link.

"PCSO Faulkner managed to sit opposite the boy and talk to him, making sure he didn't try to jump back. The pair were spotted by a local who brought out his ladders to help in the rescue"

PCSO sat talking to the boy while a local chap fetched his ladders and saved the boy.

Please put your hands together for the local chap with ladders. :woot:

Third link.

"One girl was rescued by police and one by firefighters from a bedroom at the back of the house. Two adults and another child who was aged about 18 months were downstairs and managed to get out witout help"

Please put your hands together for the real police officers and Firefighters. :woot:

Fifth link.

"She was later intercepted by a passing police response unit five miles away on the A3075 at Pendown Cross"

Please put your hands together for the real police officers. :woot:

PCSO's :ROFLMAO:

Hmmm....

On that youtube link of the traffic being released by an officer, wouldn't said traffic be at least as much at fault as the officer? The ones which went as soon as the officer walked out of the way didn't check to see if it was clear?

'Stupid retired builders'... I was under the impression that once someone retired they stopped working. How would a retired builder be in a position to do building work (stupid or otherwise) unless they were doing it on a personal level? Ergo, how many videos of 'stupid retired builders' would you then find on youtube?

The first link that Alan posted you didn't even read properly Shadey. The RNLI volunteer and the PCSO? They were the same person. The PCSO was pushed into the water and he got himself out of trouble. Then the bloke he was chasing needed rescuing. Funnily enough that was the PCSO too.

The second link; the PCSO stopped a train whilst the lad was being rescued. Ladders aren't standard PCSO (or police) issue.

The third link that Alan posted; the PCSO went into a burning building twice with no PPE. That takes guts. Also, the police officers could have rescued the child from the window whilst the PCSO was in the building. A PCSO couldn't have smashed a window in (unless they had something suitable to hand) because PCSOs aren't issued with batons. The PCSO however, was able to make it easier for the firefighters because they knew where they had to go and they were equipped to reach that bedroom. The PCSO was not.

The fifth link highlights what the PCSOs are for; the 'social' side of police work; reuniting the lady with her husband and returning their property.

If the £1.2 billion was spent on constables, how much of the extra capacity would be taken up by the things that PCSOs do now?

Tedius?.....thats an understatement if ever I heard one :D

Come back Rolf.....pleeeeease!!!

Cut by a quarter: 3,000 jobs to go at Greater Manchester Police.
http://menmedia.co.uk/manchestereve..._3000_jobs_to_go_at_greater_manchester_police[/URL]
Let's have a look at the MEN quotes shall we?
OK, here we go:

".....750 civilian employees and 309 Officers to go by 2012....."

If you'd read what I posted earlier, you cannot make a Police Officer redundant, so the 309 Officers will be made up of those who would have retired anyway.

"None of the Police Officers to leave in the initial stages will be in 'frontline' policing roles."

In other words they are just marking time until they actually do retire.

Shadow Home Secretary Ed Balls said the Coalition Government was taking "reckless risks"....

Ed Balls, oh yes he's on the opposition benches, so no vested interest there then.

Dave Prentiss, Unison General Secretary said.....actuall let's not bother with what he said as Unison represents civilian staff including PCSOs. In fact the only group that isn't up there beating its gums is the Police Federation who represent Police Officers.

As Police Officers can't be made redundant, the only way to reduce the numbers of Police Officers that will bring about mayhem on the streets is to wait for them to retire.
