General Panda 100HP as a first car?

I have a 100hp for my first car. It was sat on the drive on my 17th birthday after months of advert trawling for the right one. I'm the proposer and fully comp so the insurance is extortionate but drops hugely after the first year. Faster than any of my friends and is a hoot on country roads. The brakes need getting used to especially for heel and toe but I didn't find a problem and knew the car well just by driving on provisional for the first month of having it. A year on I've tinkered with it a little and a few problems but has never let me down and is even great on the coldest, wettest day. No regrets!

100hp as a first car?, go for it. The reason I got mine is that I was after something that reminded me of my XR2 that I had. The 100hp is a good choice, I do an average of 2000 miles a month in mine on motorways and in London traffic, I get around 37-38 mpg and I am a bit 'enthusiastic'. Also it has 4 doors so its quite practical. I have had mine 18 months from new and its done just over 37,500 absolutely no regrets!

Id say the 100hp makes a very good first car, its a very low insurance group car,and probably one of the quickest cars in the lower end of insurance groups.

Bamboo. I'm running similar mileage to you, I've got my third service coming up in 1500 miles. How much was your 36000 service? What's to be done?

It's far from a low insurance group. It's group 10 vs group 1 for the mk 3 active on the 1-50 scale. That's 1/5 up the scale! And speed isn't everything, especially for novice drivers IMO.
