General mpg on new shape doblo 1.3 jtd

Hi all,

Just picked up a new shape Doblo 1.3 diesel (90hp), brand new (10 miles on the clock ) - so today did the first work trip in it with about 150kg of stuff in the back, still managed 50mpg average while sitting at 60ish on the motorway, not bad. Anyone else driving one of these? I don't see much mention of them on this forum or anywhere else online... they obviously aren't selling too many of them? Anyway, good alternative to a caddy or transit connect, saved a load of cash, and it's got cruise & bluetooth & aircon etc already. Happy

So yes, just curious how long the engine should take to "loosen up" and if I can expect the mpg to go up as it does more miles?

Yes I have the new 1.6 multijet. I am slightly disappointed with the fuel economy as its the first diesel car that I have ever owned that won't do 50mpg even on a run. At best I get 47mpg on a long run out of its 105ps engine with 6 speeds. I don't drive it fast either. Apart from that I am completely delighted with the car.

By chance one of my other cars is a new Skoda Superb 1.6 diesel with exactly the same 105ps. Its a massive car that also weighs more than the Dobby. Its averaging 64 mpg brim to brim, a truly amazing figure given its size. It saves me £100 a month compared to its Mondeo predecessor.:worship:

Interesting! Also ironic, I px'd my skoda octavia (1.9 110hp) for the doblo as I outgrew it and business needs changed etc. the octavia was great... Pre DPF and you could get 80mpg average if you were really pedestrian with it!

Modern manufacturers figures do annoy me a bit tho... They are just not achievable in real terms. I had a new shape Kia sportage for a bit which was supposed to average 48mpg combined. After 15000 miles the best I could do was 38, and that was with the gentlest foot imaginable.

Anyway yeah I'm happy with the 1.3 so far, at least I'm seeing 50mpg (just!) tho its not fast it'll do the job for a few years! Cheers for the input

I have just taken delivery of a new (pre reg) 2012 1.6 SX, delivery miles.

Too early to say on fuel as still on first tank but will update when I know. I use an app on my phone to track fuel costs. Was getting between 33 and 42 from a 2.2TD SUV so will be disappointed if I dont get 50+ with this!

Sorry to say but I'll be really surprised if you get 50+ from the 1.6 - I'm at just over 8k miles and my average has been 43mpg, really on the low side but then as soon as you're doing over 60 on the motorway it does start to drink. Most I've had out of a tank was 54mpg and that was after a slow and dull 56mph jaunt up the m6 to the lakes and back... Still, the van is comfy and I'm growing to like it a lot!

So far after 4000 miles I'm getting an average of 46 with a high (today) of 57 mpg.

Seems to be getting better with each fill up.

I got 41 last night, two up, having done 45 miles at city speeds. S/Start worked. I drove 130 miles the other day with a top speed, not greatly sustained of 90, mostly main roads but a bit of a crawl around Cambridge, and got 42. I reckon 50 the way I drive is an impossibility.

By the way, do you lot get bad wind roar around 70, I do? I think the door needs adjusting.

The mpg you guys are getting seems to me to be really poor, i have 1.3 jtd in my fiorino 3 which has been chipped and i have never got less than 51 to the gallon.

42 at the speeds mentioned is pretty good TBH.

I traded an 2.2TD SUV for the Doblo. At speed, that would be about 33. 70/75 would be about 38 and 60 would be about 40/42.

Around town in the Doblo, Im getting about 42 I would say, sometimes less if its London, which to be honest with, Im happy with as its better than the SUV. Im doing about 1200 miles a week, so making a saving of about £50 a week on fuel alone.

Think I paid a tad too much for it now but its at a decent spec and a decent colour (not white). Although happy with the fuel so far, it would be even better if it does improve as it gets older.

The old Doblo had a CX of 3.1, which is really good for a box of a car - any car in fact, and it weighed less than the new Doblo too. I got better fuel consumption with that one, but this one acelerates at mid speeds better and the engine revs far more quickly and the whole driving experience is quieter and more comfortable. And the Bluetooth works faultlessly .

I need to do a long drive of five hundred miles. In the old car I ran at 70 -80 + for most of the journey, with the wind behind me most of the way (important) and got 45mpg. I reckon that would be impossible in the new, ostensibly more economical, car.

But; the new Doblo is quieter, more comfortable and slightly roomier in the boot. It also has a much greater frontal area.

If I can ever average 45 I'll be very happy. Let's see what the warm weather brings, since until recently i've been driving in below zero temperatures most of the time.

Apart from that I am still delighted with the car. There are a few things I would change if I could, but nothing that would stop me from buying another one.

I miss the round air vents, far easier to control. I also miss the A/C control being on the dial - just press in and out - so simple and ergonomic. The separate switch is hard to find and annoying. And the dip stalk can be too sensitive and lead to strange lane-change flasing problems Oh, and I preferred the window switches on the dash, and the new one has very poor storage solutions. Only one bottle holder and nowhere to put a wine bottle or bottle of milk - on my old one there was a perfect place to put these securely between the seats. Or was, until in the revised model they put a bit of plastic with a couple of holes there . And the old doors had places for water bottles that were sooooo handy... and and and. But: the new car is a better drive and I'm growing to love it too.

I have mentioned previously on here how few small object storage options the latest version has, so I fully agree.

I would like the armrest to be a couple of inches higher.

The demist is one of the worst I have used on a modern car, its simply hopeless on mine and I have reduced the problem a bit by having 3 large bags of silica gel in the car to absorb moisture.

The other thing I don't like is that when starting from cold the climate control doesn't work until the engines secondary glow plug circuit switches off so that it takes up to 5 minutes before it obeys your commands unless you manually override it.

I was unhappy with the handling with mine upon delivery as it understeered badly due to having been fitted from new with poor van spec C rated tyres that were also noisy. I was so fed up, I changed all the tyres to a different C rated tyre after only 200 miles which fixed the problem completely and it now corners like a hatchback.

Interesting that some say there is a wind noise problem as I don't have that at all.

The demist on mine seems to be fine, in fact the heating sytem is better. But I have A/C not climate. Friends with climate always seem to be fiddling with the controls on their cars all the time so I try to avoid the 'luxury' of it

I'm going to get the wind noise looked at. Either the door needs rehanging or the seal is faulty, either way, it isn't great above seventy without wind - feels lke a gale inside - and it can roar, depending on wind direction, if there is any wind at all from about fifty onwards.

But apart from that.... and the too low set passenger seat LOL....

I have the 2.0L multijet .
If while cruising at 55ish on a motorway I zero the trip it can do in excess of 55 mpg. And a 400 mile run to Scotland can get 50 with a trailer on.
Round town it's giving 38. To be fair they have the size and shape of a Shed so high speeds will lower the mpg very quickly .
If I set it at showing instant mpg you can see it drop once you get over 50.
You can also see it give very low readings when it regenerstes the DPF

Ive had my 1.6 multijet van (the vauxhall badged version) for 5 months now, its done 11,000 miles. The best mpg ive seen is 37.2! I managed to get it up from 34mpg by removing my ladder off the roof.

Previously I had a 1.9 doblo cargo multijet, i kept both of my ladders on the roof of that and averaged 48mpg!

My 6 speed 1.6 new shape Dobby is still averaging 46-47 mpg, and my Skoda mentioned up thread still averages 64-65 mpg with exactly the same power of 1.6 diesel engine. The Fiats fuel economy remains a minor disappointment.

I have a 2.0 Doblo 2014 remapped and it does about 40 mpg knocking about.
The 1.3 fiorino I had previously did 55 all the time.

Oh mate,i do have a fiorino 2013 and i am struggle to get 42mpg(40.4-41.5 usual) up and down the lanes.My 7 seter 2l diesel sport does 50mpg.Could be something wrong with it?
