Hi folks
My Doblo has sprung a wee leak, only really noticeable on cold start - say one drip every 5-10 seconds. From the front of the engine, it lands underneath the vertically positioned DPF. Once the engine warms up the dripping onto the road appears to stop but.....I suspect it is probably landing on something hot (exhaust/DPF) and probably vaporising.
The reason I say this is that, whilst monitoring a DPF regen, but only travelling at 20mph, I suddenly got some pretty dramatic acrid white smoke coming out from under the bonnet, pretty much in the gap between the turbo and the DPF. Scared me a little, as the DPF was very hot at that moment in time. Switched engine off, left bonnet open, allowed it to cool down, drove gingerly home without further incident. I suspect what had happened was that fuel was squirting directly onto the hot DPF and, given the lack of air flow at 20mph, could not cool down quickly enough.
I've pulled off all the air box covers and gone around the whole system from fuel filter to common rail via the high pressure pump, including the injectors. I did a quick ignition check of the low pressure system (quick cycle on and off one or two times) and definitely not the low pressure circuit from the tank to the filter to the high pressure pump.
On start up there's no visible leaks around the rest of the system (kitchen roll placed all over the place, under the injectors, leak off pipes, around the rest of the pipework). The only moisture I can detect is around the high pressure pump but I cannot pinpoint from where. Even after degreasing it's impossible to see where exactly it is coming from.
Am I right in thinking the Bosch CP1H3 pumps have a knack of inner seals letting go ? Mine is the 0445010426 pump (ref 55255416). I don't feel confident tackling this myself, and have had a quote for a local diesel specialist to take off, refurb and refit (£350+VAT).
Before I go ahead, is there anything further I can check myself, or any tips/experience anyone else can give me ? Thanks
