Hi All,

I've had this problem on the CLX now for a good while but haven't posted as I know that things like this are extremely difficult to diagnose 'in the flesh' let alone at a distance. However, I've run out of ideas now and am taking it to a garage tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions before I take it in becasue I'm not even expecting the garage to find it quickly and it could be expensive.

Right. There is a low pitched knocking/vibration (a light thump) coming - I think - from somewhere under the front. I can feel it clearly through clutch and brake pedal but not really at all through the steering wheel. It seems to be in rotation with the wheels and it happens when travelling in a straight line. It tends to start around 25/30 mph but also appears to disappear at higher speeds (over 50). Although it starts at around 30 when accelerating it's there at lower speeds when decelerating.

I've had the wheels rebalanced and checked the tyres, two of which are brand new and two pretty new. I've also swapped these from back to fron twice! I don't think wheels/tyres are the problem. I've serviced the front brakes and made sure that all the anti-rattle springs are there. The engine mounts look fine. There are no splits in any gaiters and nothing is obviously loose under the front.

I'm at a loss Any ideas?

Did you get the tracking sorted too? I know when i had the car the tracking was a bit off (steering wheen to the left slightly). It'll be from when i replaced the front drivers side tie rod. You could adjust this slightly yourself, if the wheel is to the left then it means the cars trying to go right so the tie rod needs lengthening a tiny bit to bring it back in line. I never had these vibration issues though so i'm not sure what it is :(

Hope you get it sorted asap
