General Intro and car advice

I raised this before where the Ypsilon is not been offered with a 1.4. At one time I thought it was on the way out but I reckon it will still be offered (in Multi-air form) along with the 'Sport Abarthy' US shape in 2012. I reckon the new Multi-air will probably be in same tune as the current Mito 105bhp as opposed to a more torque'd version of the US model with 101bhp. I don't see a 'Sporting' model with 135bhp (MA will a turbo in a lower boost mode) as with the Punto Evo being offered since it will be too close to the A500.
I reckon they will reserve the 103bhp TA engine for the Zagato (coupe) model and release it in time to the 'standard' Twin Air models.

So basically you're just speculating.

Tell me logically why in this age of emissions being king would they release a 1.4 105 or 101 bhp engine based on a stone age block AND the twinair 105bhp?

It aint gonna to happen. Hmmmm do I buy the car that's got free road tax (or at worst probably £20-£30) or do I buy the one that's going to cost me £95-115 a year to tax? Decisions!

Hey, we shouldn't be slagging off the boy just because he likes apple products. I myself have (over the years) enjoyed a number of strudels, several crumbles and even the odd turnover.

Or am I missing something?

BTW I wasn't slagging him off, I was just having a bit of a joke about the fact that there is absolutely no way of speccing a 500 on a mobile Apple product. I think some people are reading a little too much into stuff ;)

I wouldn't wait for that. The current 85bhp TA might be the best choice of the 'to be' 3 stages of tune. It was proposed that they would be a non turbo 2 cylinder (if it happens it might be around 60-65bhp), the current one and then the other 103bhp but it could cost a lot more if they decide to beef up the clutch & the gearbox plus it might come with ESP (IMHO a useful extra and will probably come standard on all cars from 2012).
If you going to get a Black Jack - I wouldn't 'hang about' since they were a 'limited edition' they may not make them again.

Michael, what links can you show me that show that the 85bhp twinair is the best of the 3 TA engines considering no one as yet seems to have driven the 65bhp one or the 105bhp one? If you looked in the first post you'd see that he actually wanted the most powerful non Abarth model in the range so why not wait (as he himself suggested) for the 105bhp twinair which is closest to his original requirements?

Hello Jack

I'm 19 and I currently have a 57 plate 1.4 sport 500 100hp. I drove the 500 as a courtesy car from a Fiat garage and instantly fell in love with the car. I then went onto Pistonheads have a look in more detail of the specs available at the time. I found a Red 500 with the white strips along the side and decided it was the car I wanted. Went to my local fiat garage in Aberdeen looking for a 1.4 500 sport in that specific colour scheme with the chrome upgrade (minus the bonnet strip)- even to the point of paying for shipping costs of one from kent!!! -yes I am fussy haha

I used some of the 'go-supermarket-compare' sites and got the cheapest quote of £1300 from admiral insurance, even after declaring a write off. It has now dropped to £750 this year.

I plan to be tinkering with the performance and handling with the car early next year.

As a first car I highly recommend a second hand 500 and a ding in a brand new one will reduce you to tears.

I agree. My first car (in 2001) was a 1979 Fiat 131 and I didn't need to watch where I parked it for fear of someone dinging the pristine new paintwork, and I didn't need to worry that i was going to scratch it when parking etc etc. Plus I owned it outright, so no worries about making payments every month and so on. I suspect the OP isn't going to go for an 80's Maestro or something sensible as a first car so a used 500 really is the more sensible option tbh.

There might be soon now adobe has caved in to apple and having the flash sever port flash websites in a html5 format to apple mobile products!

Quite agree.

Just to let you know the 65bhp version of the TwinAir is indeed going ahead as it has been quoted in the official blurb for the new Panda. As it is non-turbo I am worried about the performance it will provide, but we'll see...
sorry to be negative but two cylinder and 65 bhp..... is going to sound like a sewing machine and not going to have a lot of poke! reminds me of those Trabants!

I'm also keeping used an option, but I'll be keeping the car for 4 years so would prefer it to be new, straying towards the blackjack TA (anyone seen one?) and the TA in the blue/grey colour

my evo was 8 or so months old and had 27 miles on the clock and was more than £2k cheaper than a "brand new" one

Michael, you still don't get it

How can you speculate that one engine is going to be better than two others which no one outside of Fiat will have driven? That's like me saying that I think the next Mini will be better looking than a possible facelift of the 500. Not knowing what either looks like my speculation is about as useful as yours which is about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Come back when the 65 and 105bhp twinair's have been launched and we can have this discussion.

Hello,

I can confirm that Stoneacre Lincoln do have a blackjack in stock. It's a 1.2 pre-registered vehicle.
