I wiped it down and sprayed a solution of water and dish soap then wiped down again

In the Haynes manual it was telling me the maximum position — I had tensioned it past the triangle bitLooks out?
You can normally see the curve of the lower slot if they are lined up

Maximum is only to set teeth on the pulleys
You turn it over twice by hand
Then line up the slots
