just got my 120bhp T-jet recently. it was 5yo with 80k+ km on the clock. decided to soup it up last week after finishing the repairs and handling mods. the only power mod i had was a K&N filter.

had a small budget so i decided to order a Racechip One from the German website. it arrived the next day (i am halfway around the globe). what a pleasant surprise it was. i spent 10 minutes installing the chip and went for a road test. it felt brisk but gear changes were laggy. the very next morning i put it on the dyno. these were the dyno results:

crank bhp 169 (stock 120)
wheel bhp 127 (stock ~110 based on a previous dyno) - i wonder if this could have been higher as my clutch is on its way out
wheel torque 230nm (stock ~170 based on a previous dyno)

fantastic results from a simple tuning chip. the downside was that i had insufficient fueling after 5k rpm and that gear changes were laggy. i rectified that with a Walbro pump and it's really quick now.

it has improved the driving experience immensely. not bad for something that cost me less than 200 euros.

i am not related to Racechip in anyway, just a satisfied customer (although was i was skeptical).

Racechip always performs (y) they make chips that have the highest power gains.
However it comes at a cost. I've heard many stories of the Racechip cracking spark plugs just purely because it's pushing the limit.
So just a word of warning

Also your calculation for crank power is incorrect.
127whp = 152hp at the crank

The reason I spotted this is because I used to run 144whp and that translates to 171hp at the crank.

But i can imagine you're loving the new found power and the difference it makes across the rev range (y)

my crank bhp was from the dyno, not derived by me. it was quite a big loss when transferred to the wheels, which is why i suspect my clutch was a factor.

That's strange. Did they take out your engine to separately dyno your engine? :D
Because all the dyno's I know will only measure wheel hp and then do the calculations to get the crank hp. It's not something you can directly measure without removing your engine.

And I doubt the clutch will have an affect on the power reading. Because if it can output 230nm to the wheels it will most definitely be able output the max power at like 170nm without the clutch slipping. Bad clutch will result more in a lack of torque than power. Torque has to deal with the actual force that's exerted on components.

I just think the dyno's calculations from whp to crank hp was wrong.
Not all dyno's are always calibrated correctly, sadly :(

I don't understand how the chip improved the crank bhp by 49 bhp but the wheel by only 17. Did the chip increase transmission losses by 22 bhp?
When was the previous dyno run? Were both runs done on the same machine?
There are so many variables that unless the runs are done immediately before and after the modification on the same dyno it's hard to draw accurate conclusions. Did you take any other readings like fuel pressure or lambda?

hi guys, i have since changed my clutch and flywheel, and added a Forge splitter valve and electronic boost controller so i might be going back for another power run to clear the doubts.

set up my car to peak/hold at about 1.2 bar of boost. whenever it hits that i get a smell of burnt oil. possibly blowby? turbo is stock VL37, so is the IC. mine is a petrol 120bhp.
