ha haaaa! progress! I have finally overcome my fear of the mig in the garage and attacked Scruffbag's sill. looksfantastic now, just like when it rolled out of the factory... oh but I forgot to take any photos:eek:
never mind, it does look the neatest most professional bit of welding ever;) or at any rate there's no big hole any more.
so this means I can put the interior back in tonight and it'll be almost like a proper car again(y)

all those grand ideas, after many months of wavering and vague intentions Scruffbag's still sitting on the drive with a slightly dodgy gearbox, a rotten sill that's much worse than I really wanted to admit to myself even after my patch attempts, some uninvestigated rot in the rear arch seams and centre crossmember, and now with the front suspension gutted to cannibalise for Grumbleweed.
And now I've got another (French:eek:) car coming and I can't house it anymore so with heavy heart, that car I originally told the wife I bought for parts is now finally going to go that way. Just going to clear out the garage now to make some space for what I can get off. Any requests?

If your offering out parts. :)

What would you like for th geabox? I'd like one to have a go at before I strip the one down on BEX.

How badly was it?

Cheers

Darren

Have a look earlier in the thread, spider disintegrated on the N/S driveshaft and gouged out the final drive where it usually sits. temp fix was to space out the wheel hub end of the driveshaft so it sits further in and it seems to drive OK like that. Reservation might be that the needle rollers etc from the spider all dropped into the box so what havoc might ensue if it's pressed back into use I don't know. not a part I'll be keeping anyway so any offer.

poor old scruffbag's not really a car any more now. All that's left under the bonnet now is the engine & gearbox, Dash is completely stripped out along with steering collumn and rack, front suspension and driveshafts all out, front bumper off, and today started dismantling the rear suspension (back axle's the bit I'm desperate for) so as of today he's got no wheels at all any more  looking really sad now. Not sure I can bring myself to post any pics. Aim is to finish the strip and reclaim the drive by March and have the better salvage bits ready to go on Grumbleweed when I get my random weeks holiday in. Same week I had booked off last year to work on Grumbles which instead I spent faffing with Scruffbag so I figure I owe him a going over this year. I might even get those braided brake hoses on I've now had in the garage for I think 2 years (at least). Still, sad work at the minute, but I'm getting some good bits and learning a lot about how it all goes together.

YES! finally after an afternoons swearing at the big seized pivot bolt right in the middle of the back axle I have managed to remove it, and the entire back axle assembly, complete with un rotted bump stops which is the reason I bought scruffbag to start with. obviously needs a good old clean up and prep to go back on but that's way easier now it's off the car.
That's about the last major bit to come off now. Interior to remove, glass, doors and hatch, and then decide if I want/need to rescue the engine.
End times now:(

END OF THE LINE.......:(
scruffbag tonight:

gotta ring the scrappy tomorrow. My garage now looks like:

and the doors and hatch in the shed..and the seats in my study...and the carpet at the moment lying at the bottom of my stairs although marital harmony sez that can't last. Bit of sorting out to do now.

Good job on getting the omega axle, far too many have gone to the crusher
That's the bit I really wanted when I bought Scruffbag. I figured at the time that I had a load of bits and If Scruffbag was actually a runner that was a bonus. That wasn't to be but Grumbleweeds back axle looks like yours did so I need that bit. Both bump stops un - rotted through(y) nice.

Still got rear seatbelts and bumper on it

yes well father in law managed to drop it on its belly before I'd got the bumper off so I'm struggling to get underneath now. Not terribly stable on that slope. Rear belts I'm not expecting to need and the bolts are really quite rusted so seemed too much like hard work last night. Only other bits to go are the front half of the exhaust which is wrong for grumbles anyway, and the gearbox which was the knackered bit (Harlequin did say he wanted it back in November but not heard since and he's not answering PM now)

Sometimes its better to just call it a day, you got the major stuff. And now we can expect to see some on the limit cornering antics from Grumbleweed :D

By the way do you know if Panda racks fit the Y10. Mine is as trashed as they come
