Multipla Glopsy

Introduction

Here's my new Multi, pictured on the day I picked her up, resplendent in what looks like a years worth of road grime

I've serviced her, fixed numerous electrical issues including getting the remote CL working again and got her through an MOT a few days ago.

Next up is a drive belt tensioner change, as mine makes a real racket, bleed the clutch to see if I can get a better pedal, change the gearbox oil and then try and find a pair of roof bars before our holiday in May :)
Managed to have a couple of hours to myself this afternoon, which is a rare occurrence at the moment so I had a go at cleaning Glopsy. I even managed a quick polish too as well as treating the plastics to some linseed oil to bring them back to black (y)
Brilliant result. Fiats seem to have good paintwork now. Im quite envious. Its nearly, but not quite as good as a Panda! LOL

My car looks ok from 30ft away, but there's a lot of lacquer peel on the roof and bonnet.
I would get a DA polisher and some 2500 grade discs and go for it, relaquer and polish once its really hardened off. You would get a big improvement for not a lot. The best pain job Ive ever seen was my own handiwork done witout much effort or experience too. The DA is the key.

They got the pulley to me within a couple of days and they have a good returns policy if the part is not what you needed or didn't fit etc.
I'm still torn with Glopsy,as she really needs a clutch/ flywheel but with my occasional trip into the ULEZ I really should let someone else take her on??

Let me know if you ever give her away.....she could come and live with her twin sister Maud

Well, having just returned from a week in Yorkshire, where Glopsy performed perfectly, she has today decided that enough is enough and the clutch has gone.
To be honest,it was always going to be the reason for failure, but in all fairness, she waited to be just outside my house when it went.
Very little resistance on the clutch pedal and if started in gear the clutch cant be disengaged.
Such a shame as she was running, and the engine still is, really well, especially after the gearbox oil change a few months ago, along with quite a few new parts.
Oh well, it was a great 8 years of ownership 😔

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

Clutch was about £400 fitted say 4 years ago.
Someone will get a great motor.

Thanks for your blog. Whoever buys will know she has been cared for...

Maybe you should change the clutch yourself? Treat it as a project, take your time, months if necessary. Obviously you'll need to buy a replacement car in the mean time but you won't get much for glopsy when sold and its worth a lot to you.

Check clutch master before writing her off. Look at slave too and the hydraulic pipes and flex hose.
There's no loss of fluid from the bottle and there is definitely some resistance in the pedal, which returns, so I assume the spring in the master cylinder is ok?
I hope to try and see whether the slave moves with the pedal tomorrow. What in the master or slave cylinders can break without creating a leak?

Sadly, spare time is very sparse for me,and there's a chance that it could be more serious than just a clutch.

Hi,

I too would expect a failure of master or slave cylinder to result in loss of fluid.
It is worth looking at.
Did brake pedal feel strange prior to problem? Unusually heavy through say 70 % of stroke then lighter toward bottom?

J

The clutch pedal has been really heavy for a number of years, which I'm told was due to the clutch fingers hardening. The drive before it went loose was uneventful and when it did go there was no noise, and even now there's no rattling inside the bellhousing.

Thats a shame. Personally i'd be just leaving it on the drive for a couple of months while i did the job piecemeal. You can buy a mulipla clutch kit for £60 on ebay. What if you buy a car thats lots of trouble? Glopsy could come to the rescue.

I remember this helping when bleeding if you see anything on hydraulics. There is a bleed nipple on bulkhead near egr valve too.
One slave, with nipple open squeeze slave to drive any trapped air
