I'm a great believer in the 1108. Get one of those 'cento engines owners keep binning in favour of 1242s, you can swap the crankshaft and pistons into your existing block, swap the head on with the nicer cam profile, low pressure electric pump, stick the original inlet manifold and carb back on, you're looking at about 60 horses (gain a third over standard) something that looks absolutely standard and you even retain the engine number. Virtually everything is then interchangable so no confusion with parts.Been thinking about engine conversions etc..
Whats the biggest engine I can stick in but keeping it carbed and ECU free?
I take it you can stick the bottom end of a 1242 8v in and keep it carbed? Any uno engines? Maybe an Uno Turbo or am i barking up the wrong tree?
Im mainly thinking of an engine which is pritty much a straight swap no splicing cables etc.
Just as soon as I've finished fitting all the bits I've not got round to in the garage yet. How's 2018 looking for youYou've convinced me. Now when can you fit me in to do it?![]()
I like the idea of fitting a bigger engine in but the 1108 does sound like quite a bit of work, however I understand you get the advantage of keeping the original block and number.
What are the legalities with putting a bigger engine in?
The Punto 60 (1.2 8v SPI) engines go v cheap on ebay, this must be the easiest conversion to do?

Hardly anyone seems to change the engine with the DVLA for some reason. You are legally obliged to, and I'd be worried about insurance etc if it wasn't done. You have to complete the V5 with the changes, send it with evidence of the engine change, and if you've sent the right stuff you get the V5 back updated. It's not difficult just follow the rules and it's fine (I've just done it with Panto).
Any probs just give me a shout. To be brutally honest I made the "evidence" fit their rules - it's often best to give them exactly what they want when dealing with red tape! From memory you need a receipt for the engine, a bill from the garage fitting it, or an mot inspection report - the first 2 are dead simple!

I guess you'd have to have an MOT inspection certificate if you fit it yourself.
Not if you have a receipt for the purchase of the engine. If you are buying one it's worth knowing what the DVLA wants to see on the receipt too.
You will also see on other forums that people are not averse to "constructing" the evidence where they didn't have anything - we on this Forum would never condone such tactics of course!
I'm sure there are also plenty of people on the forum who would certify the engine if need be - anyone running a garage type of business would be able to do something to help I suspect.![]()
Ah so it's one of the three not two of the three. I get it![]()
Yes that's right - https://www.gov.uk/change-vehicle-details-registration-certificate/what-evidence-to-give. Somewhere else it explained about an inspection report too.
It's fairly easy to get the right evidence I think - even after the event if need be.![]()
You're using it in the cinq...unless you're throwing that away when Gertie's done. But I already have a cinq sporting, why do I need to buy all that?
