Being bright green, I don't think Fiat put it there. Either the previous owner, or the motorhome converter.

It looks like there should be electrical connections to the three holes, giving power, earth, and perhaps illumination, or something else. My guesses are: Satnav or phone charger.

You've not had it long. Can you ask the previous owner? If you bought it from a dealer, they may be able to ask the previous owner the question, without disclosing their address to you.

Sweet thank you I will do that and fingers crossed we can resolve the mystery

Mine has one too. There was a black plastic cap on it which broke of the moment I touched it so it must be there from the factory.

No idea what it's for.

It think it is a holder for a sensor that has something to do with the automatic climate control system. Without automatic climate control it is just a dummy plug and covering cap, when it has climate control it has wires and a sensor

I think you are right! I’ve read it in another page tread 🕵️‍♀️ Well done and thank you! Mystery solved

It has been widely discussed before in various places across the web. The general consensus is that it is a solar sensor utilised by full (automatic) climate control to make the appropriate adjustments in bright sunshine.

Where full climate is not fitted the green socket isn't wired, and the black cap is a dummy. (presumably it's cheaper to manufacture all the dashboards with a hole, and then fit the dummy, rather than differentiate).

I'm pretty sold on the consensus, as cars I have have with auto-climate have a similar (functioning) unit in much the same location.

Edited to add: crossed with the above.
