How flexible are you?
Can you see the turbo vacuum control rod and lever?
Do you have a vacuum pump?

Have you checked the vacuum relief tube and it's air filter are clear?

Was the engine replaced 18months ago and a new turbo ?
Or just new turbo?

Engine, turbo and injectors all replaced. Done @10k miles since then. I don't have a vacuum tool. Where is vacuum rod in relation to vacuum box?

No where near.

Vacuum actuator is part of turbo, rod connects actuator to lever that controls boost.

You don't have a vacuum pump and haven't answered question about flexibility and fitness so probably best for you to spend a few £££s and replace the boost controller.
Have you checked the integrity of vacuum tubes fully?
Checked the boost control vacuum
relief tube and filter are properly clear?

I'm pretty flexible and use to working in tight spaces, as far as I know the turbo is at rear of engine, limited access, would I be able to get access from underneath? I've checked hoses around the front but not at the rear.

That's good .... look for yourself no substitute for using your own eyes.
Still sensible to order a new boost control valve and try that.

Well, today I managed to replace the MAP and turbo sensors. Took van for 20 mile drive. Seems ok. When I removed the MAP sensor is was full of carbon and a couple of small metal particles, maybe 2-3mm max. Could this have caused the codes? MAP sensor picture attached.

The picture is of a map sensor
What else did you replace?

I also replaced the turbo boost sensor, I took the vacuum hose off the boost sensor, tested the vacuum hose with vacuum gauge, the vacuum was solid, so guessed no leaks in hose. As turbo boost was very easy access it made sense to replace at same time.

Hi, sorry I am having a problem understanding what you mean by turbo boost sensor
, the map sensor measures the inlet manifold pressure and so pressure provided by turbo.

Ah I reread the whole thread .....

Did you change the solenoid valve which controls the turbo?Another member previously called this the boost sensor.

After a second read, my understanding it that the OP was referring to the turbo vacuum control valve, which is not a sensor.

Yes, it was the solenoid valve, sorry for the confusion. Its the solenoid behind the circled plate.

Hi everyone,
eventually got my ducato motorhome into a Fiat Professsional garage, they changed the MAP sensor , took it for a test drive and it threw up an other error about turbo boost pressure, the manager said there has been a Fiat news bulletin about turbo pressure errors. They said they can't do anything until Fiat review all the data. Has anybody heard of this bulletin?

Hi,

That is a shame. Sorry to hear of on going problems.

Recently I had a vw transporter mk5 2.5 5cylinder tdi pd 174hp with me for several problems , one of which was over boost codes. Problem was the control vanes in the turbo were seized so the vacuum actuator had no effect.

It would be worth checking the hoses are connected to the correct points on the control solenoid . Plus checking the control arm on the turbo vacuum actuator moves freely (by applying vacuum) don't just push / pull on lever or rod.

Driving the vehicle with a vacuum gauge teed into vacuum hose going to turbo should show a reduction in vacuum when ecu trying to reduce boost.

Something not easy to check is if the turbo was correctly calibrated at factory.

Best wishes
Jack
