Hi,
I have changed my service interval with multiecuscan to 15k km successfully but on dashboard when I press the menu->service on left hand side it sill display 38k km which is remaining from original 48k km. Why os that?

I can't answer the multi ecu scan question....
But if on-board display can show distance to service , get that to show then press up or down arrow to show distance to oil change. Next time you look on display it should show distance to oil change first.
Fingers xed

For the X/290 (and the later X/250 with DPF), there are two different Service Intervals used. (and displayable on the dash by toggling the service display)

The first, the general service interval, has settings accessed by the "Service" option in MultiECUscan, and the "Next Service KM Reset" option should be used as and when a general service has been undertaken to reset the time/distance to the next service. This "Service" option in MultiECUscan also allows adjustment of the general service interval - (via "Service Interval") I understand this interval might be different in different markets (48,000km on mine).

The second service interval is that for oil service. It is in the "Engine" option in MultiECUscan, under "Oil Change, Only for Versions with DPF" and should be reset (only) when an oil change is carried out. As oil change requirement is "condition based", depending on the way a vehicle is driven the requirement for an oil change may not coincide with the time/mileage for the general service. The engine ECU calculates usage patterns and decides when an oil change is required. Using the "Oil Change" option sets the calculation back to base, from which calculation restarts. Hence the necessity to use this option only at an actual oil change, with clean oil being the starting point. Unlike the general service option, there is no way of setting different parameters for the oil-change time/distance.

Hi Hugh, I have a strange condition in that the mileage to Service does not appear only mileage to oil change. When I select service from the MENU it goes straight to the OIL change and I am not able to toggle to SERVICE interval, it has disappeared.
I had an oil/filter change recently at my local garage and they appear to have reset the oil as it reads 28,000 miles or so, I wonder if they have somehow erased the general service interval information? I will have a word with them but it is strange. Ray

Not anything I've got any definitive information on, but I do wonder whether letting the "Service Coupon" count drop to zero causes this.

My suspicion is compounded by the wording against the ability to reset this in MES, viz:

"This function allows you to set the number of service coupons. It is set to 9 at factory, and the number decreases at each Service Interval Reset. When the number of service coupons reaches 0 the "Service due" functionality on the dashboard is disabled.
You can enable the "Service due" functionality again by setting a value greater than 0.
You can disable the "Service due" functionality by setting a value of 0.
WARNING: ON NEW MODELS (like Giulia, Stelvio, etc.) IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO WRITE HIGHER VALUE!!!!"

If you have access to MES you can try resetting (AFAIK it's not a critical value other than the above effect). It's in the "Service/Service Interval" adjustments.

Many thanks for you prompt response. It is only 7 years old and so is it perhaps unlikely that the Service Coupon has has dropped to zero from 9? I have reset the counter twice previously using my diagnostic tool and it has always been ok and reset to approx 28000 miles. [Incidentally the tool has an oil change reset facility and it has been this that has previously reset the SERVICE interval and having no effect on the OIL change interval].
I have asked my garage who are very good and do lots of work and MOT's on motorhomes so see what they say.
If for some reason the Service due functionality has been disabled and there are no adverse effects I do not see that as a problem for me.

Under normal circumstances, using Fiat software and all the correct processes, the Service Coupon count should be decremented by 1 at each (General) Service Interval reset.

It's very easy to "double hit" (there are no immediately visible consequences), and though I'm careful with reset, I'm not sure (I'll have to check) that mine is entirely consistent with the history (having had a mix of dealer- and self-reset).

If you've used a tool where the "Oil-reset" function actually does a General Service reset instead, there's no knowing what it's doing to any Service Coupon count.

As I say, there's no reason to definitively think it's as a result of that, but the description does make you wonder.

Easy to read and reset the count with MES.

I normally use MES to reset the service reminder, but a couple of years ago I thought I'd give my Launch scanner a try, only because I'd never used it for Fiats. It reset the reminder fine, but I subsequently found that it has totally wiped both the number of service coupons used and number remaining from the ECU in the process. There are many scan tools available, not all are equal!

This is the response I received from the garage who carried out the oil/filter change.
"our diagnostic equipment that resets the service light, has had a software update by the manufacturers and this is written into the new software, so this will happen when we reset since the update."

I am a bit doubtful and confused because I never had a service and the service lamp was not on. All I required was the 'mileage to oil change' interval resetting which appears to have been done as it is now 28000 miles approx.
