Don't even know what it looks like so any help would be appreciated. TIA

Probably roughly like this. It is a pulley that fits on the end of the engine where the alternator drive belt is and has a rubber part to damp out vibrations.

I do know that it has ribs for the belt & that would explain how the garage found the problem as they replaced the alternator last month. It's the rubber part that is coming adrift on my engine. Thanks for the info.

A bit unlikely given the age , but some Motor Factors list crankshaft damper pulleys, though I would have thought your garage would have checked there first. I did have a look at the Ducato variants in Citroen and Peugeot and they seem to use the Citroen engine which is different to yours. Talbot also did similar. If really stuck I wonder if an engineering company could modify one to fit?

My garage checked all the usual suppliers in February. Have been onto Europarts today. Also RTG Automotive in Leyland, Lancs-they seem to have cornered the market. Most of the Ebay listings for the various brands of crankshaft pulleys throughout UK & Ireland are from RTG. Talbot just stopped using 1.9 TD engines & concentrated on 2.5 TD's & they are different apparently. Thanks for your help anyway.

My van is running OK but I don't know how long for -has new MOT now. I tend to try not to tempt fate & get any parts the garage says are needed before the need becomes a breakdown.

Thanks for the ePer link @jackwhoo -just tried it & it works. Dont think the part number is correct though as my van is a turbo & they are M2 distribution category. I think the number you found was for a 1.9 Diesel. At least I've been able to screenshot it

Hi,

If you look closely at the eper link the part number I tracked down for you was fitted to the 1.9 and 1.9td

The Fiat part number is given in post #5

The photo I posted is of an actual part bearing the correct fiat part number , the fiat lancia name, manufactured for Fiat by Goetze in west Germany . Photo found on web.

Good luck
Jack

Thanks Jack I've just checked the screen shot & yes you are correct. So I should be safe in searching on that oe part number & photo then. That is good news so I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thank you for all your help.

This is a picture of the correct vee belt version showing the 4 bolt retaining plate common to both versions.

If anyone is interested ......a possible practical solution to lack of 5 grove replacement pulleys would be :-

1. Find a 5pk pulley of same or similar diameter as original with the same offset from mounting face to first grove .

2. Use the 4 bolt retaining plate as a template to mark the new pulley where the bolt holes should be and correct diameter of centre hole .

3. Cut new pulley to match 4bolt mounting plate.

If a pulley is found with a smaller offset from mounting face to first belt groove a shim could be used so make up the difference.

Pulleys for the 1.9 jtd are readily available . I expect someone could find the dimensions easily.

Finding the dimensions of the original part would require measuring an original part.

Thanks for that info Jack. I've screenshot the photos & your instructions so I plan to take up to my garage nexrt week & see if I can jog John's memory about the part thats fitted. I really don't want to pay him to dismantle it all again if I don't need to. I blew up your photo & yes you can just see the lettering on the photo you found. I've been in touch with all the motor factors I can find online, Ireland, Netherlands & French ebay, Augustines etc but no joy yet so if the above will work as a solution then I might have no choice but to give it a go.

You mentioned parts for the jtd are ready available- why jtd? Isn't that a much newer newer model than mine?

Yes the 1.9jtd is more modern and in no way did I suggest a 1.9jtd pulley would fit unmodified. I mentioned the 1.9 jtd as a possibility of a pulley that may be suitable for modification , I don't know for sure if it is but the dimensions may be shown on a manufacturer web site.

Thinking about the 1.9jtd pulley it actually has 6 grooves but that doesn't matter . what does matter is the distance from the mounting face and first groove so belt runs straight , the diameter ,enough room to modify centre mounting points as previously laid out and use the original 4 bolt mounting plate.

There is no way your garage will know all the dimensions of the current pulley without removing it and measuring it accurately.

Good luck

Hi @jackwhoo co helpers after loads of searches national & intertnational I've found 2 crankshaft pulleys to fit both used but then I expected that. the van is 31 years old after all. Thanks for the help.
