I have a 1997 Fiat Ducato 1.9TD Campervan. It has a bad waterleak coming from what appears to be underneath the Inlet Maifold Housing. At the moment it won't hold any water, it runs out as fast as I can pour it in. My mechanic wants to find out what parts he needs before he takes it in and ia asking if anyone has had a similar problem or know where I can get an plan of the engine. He doesent have much space and can't really start work on the van until he has parts as he does not have space to hold on to the van for days while waiting to get parts. Any help would be great, thanks

First what is the Engine Series number as this will aid identification. It may be on the chassis plate.:)

Hi tomkc, Looks like you've got quite a problem. Have you got the mechanical skills to dismantle the engine enough for you to find the problem? It may just be a pipe that is split or parted. If you can find it, a repair should be simple. Has your mechanic had a look at it? I presume not as the van will not be drivable as is. Do you have a friend who could help? Where is the van parked? Are you able to work on it where it is? If it's in storage, will they allow you to work on the van? the questions are endless. Knowing what type of engine you've got doesn't really help much. All the Best, Ian.

It's not an engine I have had much to do with.
Is it possible to wipe it clean in that area then get a mobile phone camera to video it with water topped up.
I have been using endoscope cameras to see positions like that recently, it has been a great help on things like heater plugs on Scudo 2.0s with the Peugeot engine tight against the bulkhead.
In an ideal World you would pressure test the cooling system to see better.:)

it's parked in my garden at the moment. It was leaking months ago and my mechanic had a look, but could not see where it was leaking and did not want to take it apart in case he could needed pipes or parts, as he does not have space to park up the van while waiting for parts. This worked great for a few months and then leaked again. Now it will not hold water at all. What I was looking for is a diagram of the engine so that I can get some parts before the mechanic works on it in the hope that it can be sorted there and than. May have to sort another mechanic. Thanks everyone for your help.

Hi again, I have a 1996 1.9td and have owned it for 17 years. You can not get a workshop manual with diagrams as Fiat did not think the public deserved one at that time and have not changed since. A new mechanic sounds a good idea but finding one who can work on a van without a computer these days is as rare as rocking horse s**t. Sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and have a go yourself. These engines are not as complicated as the modern ones. Even I can do some work on mine and I am no mechanic. Take photos as you go to remind you where everything goes. All the Best, Ian
