Cinquecento Cinq Abarth Project 1.4 16v

Introduction

Its been a while since Team Lloyd did any projects, so yesterday we travelled miles to pick up this little gem!

Over the winter we hope to transform this cinq into possibly the first 1.4 16v with 6 speed gearbox, not sure if anyone has done it yet, altho have heard people thinking about it!

We now have the car and a brand new 1.4 16v engine and gearbox awaiting to be joined as one!

Thanks

Time for a wee update. Canems ECU is fitted, car running, though after checking the standard Cinq fuel pump only delivers fuel at upto 2.5bar of pressure, so purchased a Punto GT Turbo Walbro 255l/h pump as got it for a good price and it fits, stopped checking what it would go to at 4.5bar, it delivers more than enough for what we want, and then some for future should we see the need to go for more power.

Punto HGT brake discs bought as these are 22mm instead of 20mm thick like Punto GT discs, the extra width is pretty much all made up with better ventilation though this shows in price as they are more expensive, rear brake calipers purcahsed with new discs, fronts still to be bought as even though I only paid £40 for all four brake calipers didn't realise the Punto HGT fronts are slightly different, oh well someone had to make that mistake lol

20mm front spacers purchased from Delta Mic's the extra 10mm over the standard Sei abarth 10mm ones will come in handy for missing the longer 6 speed gearbox and giving wider track.

Also went to AVO as only 15min drive from home had talk with guy there and bought some front bump & height adjustable coil-over dampers with 300lb springs, and rear dampers bump adjustable, they no longer do springs for rear, but as we have some Eibach's and some standard ones and have a rear anti-roll bar which of course is a spring we need the rear to be slightly softer so hopefully some combo we come up with standards cut down or Eibach will work.

Still waiting on roll-cage from Sparco, end of Sep we're told, need to buy some tyres and get it along to rolling road.

lots of pics:

nice neat and tidy work as usual. expansion tank is much better at the back like there. tempted to move mine, theres plenty of space with the battery removed!

rear suspension is looking pretty trick too!

Grande Punto header tank, and the exhaust is also Grande Punto modified to fit, and even though we removed the big rear box and only used the GP's middle straight through box, its very quiet, way quieter than we thought it would be. Loads of space once battery gone and all the cables as well, plus past of battery tray removed that is no longer needed.

Yeah rear suspension does look good, just need to hope it works in opperation, I really like the rear exhaust hanger mounted on anti-roll bar brackets as the original mount was ground off to make way for anti-roll bar.

Front top mounts to be sourced, probably end up going universal adjustable ones, either from rally design or compbrake, may even ask compbrake how much to maeka pair of mounts using OEM templates as its something they do.

Ah get you now, thats a Lucus (it's an unused item from a car engine development program, doubt you could find one now or anything from Lucus, are they even still in business?) adjustable fuel pressure regulator. On the Sei, on your car etc the car has a return-less fuel system, in fact I thought we were going to do that on this, but as we have return pipework after some thought and advice we are running a return system as this gives a much more linear fuel pressure as return-less system give fuel spikes.

Reason they are used in most modern cars is they are cheaper to produce, but most if not all race prepped cars I believe still run return systems.

Plus we would have needed to source a Sei MPi fuel pump hanger with its pressure relief valve and stuff, but as running a much beefier pump, it is physically bigger the return system work son many fronts.

My panda runs those 22mm discs, can't see there being much difference, but every bit counts :slayer:

True wrt the regulator. The punto grande setups run returnless, but the t-jet runs a return setup with a 3 bar regualtor on the fuel rail.

The non-linear fuel flow can be compensated with via mapping, but if you have teh plumbing, may as well go with a return. Guess it's linked to manifold vacum?

Looking good anyway. Faster rogress than mine at the moment. Ordering the expensive OPM cage for mine soon i think, hopefully arrive sooner that your sparco, taking a while eh!

Thickness of disc's makes a big difference for dissipating heat, hence why HGT being heavier car having them over lighter GT, and consequently later spec cars retaining the thicker disc, also gives scope for better ventalation as shown in picture as GT disc's don't have opening around the bell.

T-jet being turbo fuelling is even more critical hence using return system so more linear and consistent plus on turbo car you want a variable rate of pressure linked in with boost, though as you say it can be compensated to a certain extent by mapping as ours Sei's show.

Looked at the OMP cage, only went for the Sparco in end as not only does it have an extra rear brace and Emma gets a nice discount through work :D

Hold up due to Italian August shutdown, all thing Italian have this bottleneck at this time of year because of it.

It's getting there, but things like Mitsubishi GTO 4 pot/Nissan 350Z 324/30mm disc conversions on Emma's FTO from the non too shabby Wilwood 4 pot 297/24mm EVO4 thta were on it take's up time. I'll never know what the standard 276/24mm single floating caliper felt like

Or popping up to Nottingham to pick up a Blitz Access plug and play ECU for the GT4 keep getting in the way :yum:

Looks so fresh in the pics, you dont ever do a half arsed jobs with cars do you (y)

Jelous :worship:

p.s when you were rexearching cages where have you found the best prices to be?

Thanks (y)
