Panda (Classic) Charmanda(er) The Panda

Introduction

Name Change! Previously known as Charmania for anyone not in the know, she's had a slight rename, keeping the Char but sticking my favourite childhood Pokemon name in there, Charmander, mainly because the first time I ever encountered a Panda I was about 8 years old and Pokemon was my favourite thing in the whole world.

Some details,
1992 Fiat Panda 750 Mania
769cc FIRE engine.
Lowered 40mm.
Seicento Sporting Front Seats
Side Stripes for faster acceleration
Fiat 127 'Palio' Alloys.
Veglia Rev counter, so I can count my revs.

I washed her, wanted to take her somewhere nice for pictures but it hasn't been sunny for long enough to do that, so I'll get nicer pictures at some point....
Here she is now, Charmanda.

Sorry for the terrible lighting. Can't do much about the sun.
the 75 is a great engine, jason's turbo cinq is running what 160bhp ish without even having fancy fuel controller, just has mf2 like my sei, whereas mine (not even had it on the rollers) is only about 105-110 with the same amount of boost. Not that 105-110bhp is anything to be sniffed at from a 1.1 8v engine!! My turbo is not a slow car by any means, but i'm sure an extra 50 odd bhp on top would make a huge difference lol.

Surely something can be done gearbox wise, the cinq/sei/mk1 punto boxes are pretty strong, and larger clutch and flywheel from a 1.4 16v is a bolt on upgrade.

Of course my gearbox can be swapped for something a little more worthy, its just my skills are definitely not up to it so she'd have to go off to a garage for work like that.
Problem with P75's are they aren't exactly common, by my understanding the 75 was only available on mk1 Puntos, which are getting thin on the ground nowadays, this is an example I found but it looks way to good to break

Unless you are driving it like an idiot all the time the gearbox will be fine, they seem to cope with a 1242 16v ok and are stronger than most people think. Changing the box would mean making mounts, linkage and custom driveshafts, speedo drive could also be an issue.

Thanks, I was really struggling to find much info on Panda gearboxes being used with engine conversions. In theory I shouldn't tear it to shreds with 75hp then.
Only concern that leaves me with is the fact that I have a 750 5 speed, designed for 34hp and 42lb-ft of torque, meaning gear ratios are somewhat low, won't I be wheel spinning in every gear, what do I do about the clutch? Can I use the clutch from the Punto donor with my Panda gearbox?

Questions questions questions.... Its going to be 9 months before I even hope to start this project... I'd love to be able to start it sooner since I'm not even using the car at the moment but I obviously don't have the time to do it myself or have the funds to pay a garage to do it all.

If you're changing the engine the gearbox will come out with it anyway, but you're worrying about nothing, Char's gearbox will be fine! recon it if you want to be sure.

You could always save your pennies and give it to me to do! :D

Hmmm, I've always fancied a tidy mk1 Punto, and thats a bargain price and only around the corner from work :chin:

This is tempting, its so cheap, not sure why I assume something to do with the worlds shortest MOT and they know it won't pass for some reason. If the engine is fine however it'd be a perfect candidate.
I know its a 1108 and I should really look for a 1242 but Sei's are just cheaper than Puntos

I'd never noticed how much like a Fiesta seicentos look from certain angles. Touch of Suzuki Swift from the back too.
