Technical Blocked Water Drains

so I follow the blue tube up towards the window to find the "duck bill" or follow it down towards the floor?

I am amazed that there are no vids on YouTube showing you how to do it. Can usually always rely on YouTube, but nothing out there.

Something I was thinking - I know what I'll be doing this weekend :D

Is is correct that the duck-bills just sit in the holes unsecured. Went to milk mine and nearly lost it in the scuttle!

Yep. They just sort of dangle.

Really useful thread this.
I have regularly cleared the drain plugs on my MX5's but never thought to look on the 100HP.

Gave them both a squeeze and a fair amount of water came out so I stuck my finger up inside the passenger side one and it was filthy.
Tried to do the same with the drivers side and it's now popped up inside the scuttle.
Job for the weekend I suppose, but I poured a kettle full of cold water down there and now much clearer.

Hope this sorts my regular misting up problem

Success!!!! I found the "duck bills" this morning, and actually now that I know where they are, they were in plain sight all along :bang::bang:.

Anyway, I "milked" them this morning and the passenger side one was clear. The drivers side one did have some gunge in it, but not too much. It was quite soft gunge so can only think that with all the rain we have had, it has slowly cleared itself. Anyway, after I squeezed them, I poured some water down the windscreen with the bonnet still open to make sure that the water was draining away and it did.

Thank you to everyone who has helped me with this query - we got there in the end.

I still think there needs to be a proper guide on how to maintain these drains and clear them - or even a video demonstration!. I am amazed that there is nothing about them in the handbook. Given how recurrent this problem seems to be for people I would imagine it is something that people need to be aware of. Having standing water sitting in your scuttle panel surely cannot be good for a car.

Hi Lorna - congratulations..I was confident you could do it..!!(y)

could you have a quick scan back through this and let me know if anything was misleading..??,
or needs adding. as GUIDES are awkward to edit after posting,

thanks,
Charlie

No problem, to be honest with you, your last post with the cropped pictures is the post that pointed me in the right direction. I'll post another pic of mine to show people exactly where both duck bills were.

You can actually see the duck bill on the passenger side hanging down. Once you know what it is your looking for, finding it on the driver's side is easy. Hope the picture is clear enough for people - I can't upload a zoomed in pic unfortunately, but you can definately see the duck bill on the passenger side in the red circle - hopefully.

Looks like I found them just in time judging by the amount of rain that is coming down at the moment.

Hi Charlie

Did you want me to send you pics of the duck bills from my car? Now that I know where they are lol.

Lorna

Yep, no problem. Once I get some good clear pics, I'll PM them to you.

Car seems to have been fine since, no sloshing of water.

Hiding in plain sight is exactly right. Despite the pictures I really couldn't locate these duckbills they blend in so well with the black sound proofing on the bulkhead.
I located them by looking in the scuttle area on the passenger side, I'd picked up a short length of timber - 25 x 6 mm and about 200 mm long. I used that to scrape away all the pine needles on the passenger side and lo and behold I saw a hole. My bit of dowelling was exactly right - push down and out it came through the ducbill, once you know where it is it is obvious.
Because of the wiper box you can't push down on the drivers side but I could push up.
Both were very blocked so I hope that will cure the wet drivers side footwell problem.
There's still lots of muck in the scuttle which I can't get to because of the wiper box so come drier weather it will have to be hoovered out (or blown out) which in future I will do once a year to avoid the problem occurring again.

Ok, is there any possible reason at all why, when going round corners; especially turning right, why I still am able to hear liquid behind the passenger side dashboard? I have checked my duck bills (now that I am a pro at locating them), and they are bone dry and clear. Any ideas?????

Are you sure it isn't coming from the fuel tank

There are no stains on the floor when it's been parked and fuel seems to be lasting as usual. Anything else it could be?
