Technical Blocked Water Drains

Technical Blocked Water Drains

I think I need to start from the beginning of my water slushing saga.

In July of last year, I noted a gurgling sound on starting the enging up. I obviously took it to the garage who informed me that my engine coolant level was low and they topped it up for. They also did a pressure test on the coolant to make sure that it wasn't leaking - which is wasnt, and all was well again. About six weeks later, I noticed the same noise on starting the enging. So I took the car back to the garage, at this point I had also noted that the passenger footwell was damp, my car was then diagnosed with a leaking heater matrix (thankfully this was covered under warranty). So I duly booked my car in for two days later on that week. I happened to be going on holiday the following week so I said that I would leave my car with them for the week for them to sort out. It turned out that the matrix they fitted was a modified one and now meant that if it was to leak, it would like outside the vehicle and not into the vehicle - does that sound right? I have had a number issues with this garage, which I shall not name for the time being.

Anyway after having my car for well over a week, it still gurgled on starting but the Technicians informed me that this could simply be due to air in the system as they had pressure filled the coolant ????. All was well for a good while until October last year, when I noticed the swishing on going round corners, obviously assuming that this was something to do with the matrix I took it straight back to the garage (and was obviously quite frustrated at this point), but it turned out to be a blocked duck bill:eek:, but I noticed it again in December - which is when I posted here, but the problem seemed to dissipate. Now it seems to be swishing again on going round corners - this morning it was noticeable on going left!

Could this be that air is still working its way out of the system. The coolant holder is quite hard to see so it is difficult to ascertain whether this has gone down or not.

I am getting really frustrated with this particular garage as customer service does not seem to be a big thing in their service department, and nothing is ever explained to you properly. I don't want to feel like a nuisance customer.

My tank is currently over half full -

At least you're a very positive person.

Gurgling might be air in the heater matrix. Should be bled by letting the engine idle with the pressure cap off and the heat full up (red). Maybe even on an upward slope.

Sloshing could be petrol, but I've never heard it in my Panda. Marbella did this though.

Well I gave in and took it to the garage to be water tested. The passenger footwell was also damp with water -so clearly water was getting in somewhere. Turns out it was the door seal on the passenger side, so that is now being replaced!

The joys motoring.

Cant see how that would cause the sloshing sound Lorna .... damp floor yes, but not the noise..

It sounds cooling system related to me. I had the exact same on a Punto a few years back that suffered head gasket failure not long after. (looking back that was probably a warning sign but I hadn't put 2 and 2 together at the time). It could be that it hasn't been bled properly after work has been carried out - if I remember right the FIRE is a bit of a bugger to bleed fully?

You could check the spare wheel well in case it's full of water? I've never heard petrol sloshing about in my Panda before.

Hi...I have exactly the same problem as the original post and have read through this thread for help.
However, I have a twinair turbo (2012 model Panda) and my engine bay looks nothing like the pictures and appears very cramped. I've tried looking for the tubes but no luck....any advice? It's getting bad, when I turn a corner after heavy rainfall I get a left foot covered in water as it pours into the drivers footwell!!!
Thanks in advance.

The heater air intake area below the windscreen has rubber drain tubes with crimped ends which are supposed to open to allow water to drain away. Check they have not got stuck together or clogged with debris.

If the sloshing sounds persist or return after the system has been filled and bled, get the coolant checked for hydrocarbons. A positive test will indicate head gasket problems.
