I got my 2019 500x Cross Plus yesterday. I have used Bluetooth to connect the phone. I have zero experience of modern cars, so this is the first time I have attempted to use a car with a touch screen display.
I was expecting Apple Car play to appear on screen and see apps etc. I don't see anything like this. I then connected via a USB cable and it made no difference. I downloaded UConnect from the App Store and tried logging into that app use the Google option where I entered my gmail email and password. It then just says "Account Pending Registration". I assumed that maybe they had sent me an email to confirm, but nothing.
What am I doing wrong? I would have thought this would have been super easy.

Also, if I try and play a song from my iphone it permanently shows the song as being paused. If I press play, then nothing happens. Any idea what is going on?

Also, the car comes with a 'Quick Guide' printed book. It says the full guide is online - but where is it? I far preferred a full manual.

Other than this, so far the car is fine.

Hi, you can find the 2019 handbook here - https://cdn.dealereprocess.org/cdn/servicemanuals/fiat/2019-500x.pdf

Carplay to my knowledge has to be wired - for me I just connected the usb cable to the correct USB port, other end of cable to the iphone, unlocked the iphone and a few seconds later it came up as an option on the dash, pressed car play on the display panel and could use maps, music etc. I had the same in my Fiat 500 2020 as to the now 500x 2021 - the x behaves a bit better than the 500 did - that used to not like a change of iphone to car play i.e. unplug and plug a different phone and sometimes got grumpy when stop / start kicked in.

Is your iphone up to date software wise? There could be compatibility issues with an old device - but I think it would have to be quite old.

I got it working by downloading the uConnect app. I am not sure if I had to, but I did anyway and it worked. I ended up registering with Mopar Connect and it seems that that did the trick.
I didn't realise that you have to connect the iPhone via the left side USB socket.
I downloaded the handbook.
Now, I just need to figure out why the Stop Start never works.

My cross plus 2021 you can use both the front usb for CarPlay but not the one in the back / passenger end of the car.

My stop / start you can turn on off of with a push button on the dash - however it does not stop when in neutral and hand break on - if you stall it though in say a parking manoeuvre it does tell you on the mini dash readout and says to push the clutch right down etc. to startup - so it sort of seems to be doing something but not actual stop / start.

The Start/Stop is controlled by many factors all of which need to be correct for the normal Start/Start. However if you stall it will attempt to restart the engine.

My start/stop rarely kicks in except after a good long run. Battery condition/charge is crucial and the system seems to be very very fussy about what it considers to be a good charge level!

Below is the Fiat technical info about the Start/Stop system/conditions.

When the device is operating, due to comfort, emission control and safety reasons, the engine may
not stop in some conditions, among which:
Engine still cold.
Battery not sufficiently charged.
Windscreen wiper at max. speed.
Particulate trap regeneration in progress (only for diesel engines).
Driver's door not shut.
Driver's seat belt not fastened.
Reverse engaged (for example parking operation).
With automatic climate control, if a suitable level of thermal comfort has not yet been
reached.
4WD low Active.
Heated windscreen active.
In the above case, an informative message is shown on the panel.

Due to comfort, emission control and safety reasons, the engine can restart automatically without
any intervention by the driver, under special conditions, such as:
Battery not sufficiently charged.
Low braking system vacuum (for example after the brake pedal has been pressed
repeatedly).
Car moving (for example on roads with a gradient).
Engine stopped by the S&S for more than about three minutes.
With a gear engaged, the automatic restarting of the engine is only permitted by fully depressing
the clutch pedal. This operation is requested through a message on the instrument panel

With a gear engaged, the automatic restarting of the engine is only permitted by fully depressing
the clutch pedal. This operation is requested through a message on the instrument panel.
NOTE:
If the clutch is not pressed, when three minutes have elapsed since the engine was stopped,
the engine can only be restarted using the key.
In the case of an undesired engine stopping as a result of sudden clutch pedal release with gear
engaged, if the S&S system is active, the engine can be automatically restarted by fully pressing
the clutch pedal or placing the gearbox in neutral.
Safety functions
When the engine is stopped by the S&S system, if the driver releases their seat belt and opens the
driver side or passenger side door, the engine can be restarted only using the key.
"Energy saving" function
If, as a result of the engine automatic restarting, the driver does not execute any action on the car
for a long time, the S&S system stops the engine once and for all, to prevent fuel consumption. In
this case restarting requires the key.

Thanks for the info.

So far it's only ever kicked in when a stall has come about - push clutch pedal down message on the mini dash. My 500 2020 Lounge by contrast, short or long journey - if you stop at lights for example, neutral and handbrake on - engine stooped - push clutch down and engine starts. The X Cross just doesn't seem interested lol

Blimey thats quite a diatribe. No wonder these things sometimes seem odd I must read the handbook.

Even with the original Fiat battery (presumably start/stop rated) my 500X was very iffy on the function so into the Fiat dealer.

26/04/16 : SGM - Left over night
0003,305 Start-Stop not working
Ben showed me on the WiTECH Diag kit that under the Start-Stop section there
were 138 counts of "Battery Condition" not be adequate for the system to function.
Battery will be charged over night and car tested again tomorrow.
Will also order a new battery for tomorrow. No problem if it is not required.
Will also battery swop with another SGM owed car which has no issues just to double
check function / diagnosis.

When that battery expired (did quit well lasting to 21/05/19) I just replaced it with a Yuasa HSB013 Silver 12V Car Battery 5 Year Guarantee.

Technically this was not the correct battery for Start/Stop and the official Start/Stop battery would be a Halfords EFB013.

For reference the original Fiat battery was a Fiat/Mopar Battery P/N:51980577, Made by EXIDE - 63Ah 450A L2 - Exide 438500-HD. The Exide aftermarket replacement is an EL600 - 60Ah 640EN.

Anyway as Start/Stop was always iffy I decided to just go with the cheaper Yuasa HSB013.

THANKFULLY - with my 500X there is no Battery Coding required with a simple battery change.

Won't be long before if you want to change/replace a bulb or wiper blade it will have to be coded into the body computer. After all different makes of wiper blade have different friction/drag coefficients and the car needs to know this for optimum performance and energy / green requirements and to meet stupid regulations .................
