Possibly a stupid question but is there a way to get access to the link that seems to be hidden in the box that exits the rear of the passenger compartment underneath which houses all the cables (and this link) coming from the tunnel?
The opening of the box barely allows a hand to get in there. I saw no access panel to it.

I have just recently fitted spring washers to the link on my 500R as it was so loose it rattled the gear stick. On my car it is behind the tunnel and just in front of the gearbox, not in the box. It is easy to get to but only front underneath the car. Here are a couple of pictures, the link (aka lollipop) and the tunnel lid just in front of the rear seat. Hope it helps.

Thanks for the photos. I have a chimera car. It's an Autobianchi Bianchina with a 126A engine and gearbox. I saw no link underneath and assumed it was hidden in that box section. I'll take a light under there and look inside. Maybe there is no link. My shifting feels sloppy so I thought it was a worn link but it could just be the setup that someone did and that's as good as it gets. Thanks again.

There should be a pair of 'light' spring washers for the stepped bolts that hold the 'lollipop' onto the gear-linkage rods--1 spring for each bolt. Without these spring washers, yes, it WILL rattle! Do you realise that the panel by the main heater switch (behind the seats, on the top of the central 'tunnel') ) comes out and gives more access to the rods and hoses that go into the rear of the car.

Yes, thanks, I do know of the access panel. I was referring to the space after that point, under the car, that is enclosed and has a small square opening on it's other end where all the cables and shift linkage emerge from. I'm going to climb back under the car and see what there is to see. It may be that there is no lollipop.
