Stilo Jtd Fault Code P1320

Been playing with an AA diagnostic computer on my 2003 Stilo Jtd.

It's showing several generic fault codes that I know about (P0101, P0110, P0201 and P0703) but I cant find any meaningful explaination for manufacturer code P1320. The description shown on the computer for it is "Timing/Revs Synchronisation".

Any suggestions as to what this one might be?

Synchronisation is the correct timing of the cambelt. The engine crank sensor is monitored as is the phase sensor on the cam. The signals are monitored and if they are synchronised (timed up correctly) the engine will start. This is why when a cam belt jumps on most jtds the engine will not restart and so protects itself from any further chance of damage. The most common cause of this error is the failure of the crank sensor, no signal from crank sensor, but signal from phase sensor means loss of synchronicity. Other causes are timing incorrect or phase sensor failure.

Thanks for the explaination. I don't actually have any problem with the car, it starts and runs perfectly OK. I was just playing with the diagnostic computer because I had access to it for a few days. It was a bit like having half an Examiner (it only cover the engine related functions) so I was determined to make the most of the opportunity.

Do you know if P1320 could be a stored/pending code from the camshaft sensor having been disconnected in the past?

loose connection stilo JTD

evening all

So tonight i changed my rear pads! brilliant all working fine i think.

Started driving home tonight and the car stopped for a sec with "loose connection" on dashboard!! i was like uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh how odd, car ran fine and seemed fine! then it happened again.

Another odd thing was i left my car at my dads and the and when i went to start is the battery was flat, i did have the radio on for about 3 hours the night before in the car so thought it might be that. battery seems fine and she starts quickly no slow starter motor, so i dont think its the battery...

has anyone had this before? and has it ever been sorted, ive seen a few posts about it but knowbody has sorted it so it seems??

sure have mate, can do bmw,vw,fiat,ford,renault. got the codes off now

p0335 rpm sens (new crank sensor?)
p1555 accelerator brake (maybe new brake switch or adjust?)
p0236 super charger error (need to do the mod on this as we have had lots of water and i think some might of disturbed it?)

anyone agree??

so i changed the crank sensor and now everything is working great!!

what i would say to anyone who got this problem is that for some reason it does bring up other errors, the car seems to get confused when something goes wrong. When i did a read on the ECU it did bring up the fault though!

Loose connection and car cutting out REPLACE CRANK SENSOR :p

now the cars gone for an MOT!!! i hope all is well there!!

Good to hear it is fixed.

This is a very common problem across most makes of car (euro 2 onwards).

Last week I changed the crank sensor in my father in law's 1997 Megane. Same symptoms (apart from the loose connection).

He is very happy now as he was swearing at the car and getting stressed because he thought he was going to have to spend a lot at the garage to get it fixed.

It is a simple to fix but if you don't know where to look, it can really throw a lot of people, even mechanics.
 
Engine fault warning, then car won't start

Had a quick search but couldn;t find anything that helped.

Car is a 115JTD, this problem had happened twice noiw.

Couple of weeks ago I was on the motorway and an engine fault warning flashed up, then the engine symbool on the panel stayed lit. I went shopping and on my return the car wouldn't start, tried loads of times (even left it 15 mins or so between tries) to no avail. I called out the RAC and when i wne t to show them the problem the car started 1st time, and did so the 10 times that the RAC guy tried it :rolleyes:

Anyway, no problems for 2 weeks then same problem again today. I managed to flatten my battery whilst tweaking my new stereo system :bang: JUmp started it, took it for a blast up the motorway and same warning occured, I switched off when I got home and tried to restart and suprise suprise wouldn;t start (n)

Any ideas folks?

I dont think they like being jump started, so that may have made it angry, but it does't really explain why the warning occured first time round. Is the battery the original? Unless someone knows of another cause for the *beep beep beep Engine Failure* then id try a new high quality battery as a tired battery can cause no end of s*it on a Stilo.

No sign of life then starts after having a rest?

Suspect Crank position sensor.

Do a search as it's a very common fault for diesels

Liam - I thought it was bump starting they didn't like, jump starting should be fine as you are essentially just adding another battrey????

Deckchair - Plenty of life, engine tries like mad to start, rev counter even flicks to around 500RPM, but just won't quite start :(.

Haven't tried it this morning yet. Shall go and do it now and see what happens

I think you will find they don’t like being bumped or jumped.
Jump starting can seriously damage the brain if done incorrectly on most cars these days so be careful.
Most car spares shops will test the battery free of charge; the stilo is very reliant on a good battery.
Just about everything on the stilo relies on the battery so get the best one you can afford.

I thought it was any type of unconventional starting that they don't like as theyre very reliant on the specific voltage for all the checks they do before starting. If it's turning over & trying to starrt then i doubt it is the battery tho. Would hope Examiner will pick up some fault codes.

Just had the car on examiner, it has come up with the following faults codes:

P1320- Timing/revs synchronisation

P0110 - Air temp sensor

P0101 - Air flow meter

The air temp and flow would not cause the car not to start according to Fiat, they seem to think it could be either RPM Sensor, Phase sensor or faulty injection control unit.

Any ideas guys?

I know the MAF sensor fault will be because I ran it unplugged after cleaning the contacts ;)
