Technical 1.9 JTD suddenly dies (crank sensor?)

hello.

for the last few weeks i've had a similar problem, although my 1.9 Stilo JTD has never cut out while driving.
It first displayed 'loose connection' and refused to start after driving with no problem for 90 mins on the motorway. The car wouldn't start for 45 mins (which caused blushes when it started first time in front of the recovery guy.)
It was fine for a week afterwards until it happened again (i also ran down the battery this time, so I had this replaced recently.) After I had the battery replaced it happened once more, and the recovery guy used easy start to get it going. I have since bought some easy start myself (which saved me tonight) but i really want to get to the bottom of this.

So this has got to be something to do with the fuel intake, right? The injectors or even the glow rods (i've had a preheat warning come up for a while too, but the car has always started no problem)

i'm a complete novice so go gentle!

thanks

Sounds pretty much identical to my issue, mine turned out to be cam sensor (n)

ta.

any suggestions on where i can pick up the parts at a reasonable (i.e. not fiat) price?

Re: JTD Loose Connection Problem [crank sensor]

my stilo behaved the same way, died, cooled down started again. it was the crank sensor, cost £60 to have it replaced buy local non fiat garage, worked ever since.:)

i'm still investigating on the best place to get a new crank sensor - i have someone willing to fit it for me. Any other sites?

In the mean time - the car is cutting out quite a lot - but i'm managing to get it going using Easy Start.

My question is - will this cause long term damage/harm to the air intake etc?

Thanks again for everyone's invaluable advice.:)

They are only about £23 from fiat dealer, get it from them.

Sorry I can't comment on the easystart thing

I got my mobile mechanic friend to buy and fit the crank sensor for me - all in for £65.
Not had a single problem since (with the cut out anyway).

thanks everyone for your advice.
