Re: Engine fault warning, then car won't start

The crank sensor is related to the Timing/Rev synchronisation, if I'm not mistaken.

Ah right, is it easy to get to? Is it work removing the connector and giving it a good blast of contact cleaner?

Argonought if i'm have come across as being arsey I apologise, just had a bit of a crappy day and this has topped it all!

Was the image posted from the top or the bottom of the engine, going to try and give the connector a good clean tomorrow and see if that helps, if not i'm afraid it will be back to fiat next week (and i'll have to drive the wife's girly pale metallic blue seicento for a couple of days

Don't worry about it - no offense intended or taken :)

I've never had this problem myself but as you can see it's extremely common.

You may well find that just cleaning the connector may get it working again but if that fails then personally I'd pay a garage to change it.

Cheers Argonought, is the sensor acessed from the top or the bottom of the engine, do I need to remove anything to get at it?

does the cambelt have to be taken off to replace the phase sensor?

i have the same problems as a crank sensor, however my car NEVER starts, not even when you leave it for a while. Fiat have said its the phase sensor and are quoting me £425 including the 3 hours it took to diagnose and a new cam belt.

yes but with my car not starting at all would it be just the crank sensor? because as far as i can see from this thread, the crank sensor causes temporary problems and its fine again when left for a while.

and with the phase sensor change requiring the same work as a cambelt change, couldnt it be done under the fiat care scheme for £150?
