Certainly agree. It's because people didn't care what happened in their lifetime that we are where we are now :)

it was more like people didn’t know till the news about CFCs hit them – spray cans etc, and then some people started taking care and they were mainly smelly :yuck: We are more aware now but are made guilty by every means possible and the reason we rebel in our small ways, until caught again. This what mjsmke is saying - I hope :)

What’s disturbing and confusing (in a known sort of way) is that UK a country with a small physical mass is taxed to the hilt for emissions and we are taken for a ride with all excuses to be green or to be seen green, this is an overkill by any means. in contrast rest of the world (ex. some euro countries) don't really care, I know first-hand.

So Maxi I am not disagreeing with you, all I am saying is UK needs to be applauded for its efforts.

Thanks for making people think this is an acceptable opinion, Jeremy Clarkson.

Lol, I car to a certain extent. But i wont go out of my way to buy a car without the performance i really want just to help the future generations i'm never going to meet.

If the government cared half as much as you do they would ban all larger engines for most uses.

The people who really dont care about the ozone are driving rediculous 4x4's on the road.

I'm conscious of staying on topic mjsmke and can relate to individuals who have downsized from Z4Ms to A500 and others from larger cars to 500 with roof boxs but in a couple of year time you will probably think differently about not meeting 'future generations'. I remember my late mum telling me that she was shocked when she saw my father in me !

Oh of course :) I'm just old enough to remember when CFC's were banned. If we didn't know what CFC's were doing then we didn't know :)

The main thing that gets me is people who aren't bothered about fuel consumption. At the end of it all there is only a finite amount of oil on the planet and when it's gone it's gone.

I used to drive a gas guzzling, smelly, fume putting out 1970 porsche 911e and I didnt care how much smoke came out the exhaust or how much fuel it burnt cos I didnt pay road tax cos it was registered before 1st of Jan 1973(y). But that still wasn't an excuse. If some euro countries don't care about green house gases that doesn't mean we shouldn't care no matter how unfair it seems to be. I remember when petrol was less that £1 a gallon:bang: now fuel prices thats not fair

Personally I feel that the fuel prices are fair. I've never been unable to go somewhere because of fuel costs :)

Our OP seems to be still deciding on his choice - the TA probably complicates it :) particularily if he has access to 'cheap' LPG.;)

I reluctantly agree with you but spare a thought for the Turkish people at €1.90 a gallon and then you have the extreme of venezuala at 1.4p a litre !

The Euro 5 1.4 with stop start is 130grs/km and surprisingly the multi-air 1.4 turbo engine when it arrives will be the same !
If you run a 1.4 on LPG it's apparently London congestion charge free. It must dip below the 100 grs/km. So it's a good option if you want to cut down on burning holes in the ozone layer.:)

That figure is for the dualogic - the standard shift 1.4 is 135 grs/km.

A key figure on checking the 'damage' to the environment is Nitorgen Oxides referred to as NOx.

These are the figures for the newer 500 'manual' models...

MJ 160gr/km
1.2 32grs/km
TA 34grs/km
1.4 16grs/km :p

So for the Euro 5 1.4 drivers out there -you can be happy with yourself :)

What are Nitrogen Oxides?

Nitrogen oxides (NOx) include various nitrogen compounds like nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and nitric oxide (NO). These compounds play an important role in the atmospheric reactions that create harmful particulate matter, ground-level ozone (smog) and acid rain.

Buy the 1.4. Decat it, remap it and give it a straight through exhaust. I'm enjoying the warmer weather and longer summers.

I'm in the Villingen in Germany this week. Down in the black forest. The weather here has been delightful. Blue skies and hot. I've come over all European as well. Walking the 10 minutes to the office through a park, listening to the creek bubbling beside me, smiling at people on bicycles. Stopping inside the old town for a beer on the way back to my hotel. Has been a perfectly wonderful way to spend a week. I don't want to come home :)

Loveshandbags, the quaife does work wonders with cornering traction. It's sort of hard to describe the sensation. Mechanical and solid where previously there was skittishness and lots of inside wheel spin. But you need to stay commited. Lift off mid corner and it's a lively handful of a thing. Costs you a few mpg as well but that's not unexpected. I haven't had her on the rollers in a while. Last time I think it was about 112bhp. I haven't got around to fitting the decat manifold yet. The race car keeps distracting my spending :)

I had a bit of a drive in the 500 the other day and have to say that even with 69bhp it could do with an LSD when you're pushing hard :)

I did take a video of my driving but the camera makes it look like a Sunday drive :D
