Hi there...Im new here. Me and my white Fiat 500 sport live here in Moscow. There are not many 500's about here unfortunately.
The car is a 2008 m/y....and although has a 'winter pack'...it doesnt have heated seats. Ive tonight fitted an aftermarket system...but hit a snag when I found a sensor in the passenger seat squab, under the upholstery/on top of the seat foam. Its not on the drivers seat...only the passengers.
Its mainly clear plastic, abotu 6 inches long x 1 inch wide...and got two small white wires running out of it and down to the connector at the seat base...
I think its the weight sensor to sense when someones actually sitting on the seat? Ive covered it with the heating pad. Im not worried about the weight of the pad triggering it off...more worried about the heat (although of course it doesnt get that hot in reality), doing something to the sensor. I guess that would then compromise the passenger airbag.

Should I worry or not???

(and ps....my car doesnt have Blue and Me...just a standard Fiat headunit with cd and radio that says 'MP3' on it...on the back there are just two block connectors. But it does seem to have a position for AUX if you push the 'source' button. But theres not AUX input anywhere to be seen either in the usual place down by the centre console...or even at the back of the unit. Any ideas how I can make the AUX input with and connect it with my ipod (without using a radio transmitter thing?)

...cheers for any advice you can give.

I don't know about an auxillary input but the MP3 on the head unit means that it will play MP3 (and probably WMA as well?) files from a CD, so I would burn a few CDs. You also get the advantage that the track names will display on the head unit this way, with the B & M USB port they only show on the screen within the dash display.

Heated seats kit for a fiat 500

Hi there...(thanks for the previousreplies re the radio.)

meantime...installed the WAECO universal seat heating kit now...all went ok...BUT, under the passenger seat - between the foam and the seat cover, is (what I think is) a seat pressure occupancy switch. It means I have had to lay the seat heating pad over it. I guess Fiat would say not too....but theres no other choice. I rang WAECO products in Dorset who were as helpful as a chocolate teapot .....

anyone any technical thoughts it its ok?

And finally, have routed the two power wires up through to a place near the main fusebox under the dash to try and pick up two ignition switched minimum 10 and 20 amp power feeds....but cant easily get into the box. I wanted to take the feeds direct from the ignition switch, but cant get the plastic shroud off from around the ignition/steering wheel. Looks like the whole wheel has to come off - or am I being thick???

All help very gratefully received!!!! Cheers....Kevin

removing steering wheel cowl

Hi there....does anyone know how to get the steering wheel cowl off my fiat 500 sport so I can get to the ignition switch and take a power supply off it? I think I have to take the steering wheel off (if so, hows that done)....but hoping its not the case???

Cheers in advance for your help...

Kev, please try and keep all of your posts on the same subject in your original thread if you can :)

Re: removing steering wheel cowl

It's probably a bit unlikely to have to take the steering wheel off because of all the attendant fiddle-faddle and risks involved with inadvertent discharging of the handbag, sorry, airbag. If you do have to take it off, you will probably need to disconnect the battery, wait for ten minutes or so to let the capacitor wind down then disconnect the airbag wiring. Keep your head out of the way when unplugging the wires. Treat the pyrotechnics behind the steering wheel crash pad like an unexploded bomb and put it somewhere safe!

You'll need the radio code before you start so that you can re-enter it after the job. You might have to ask your dealer for this.

This. You have started 3 threads about this now, when all questions could have been answered in just 1. Please stick to a single thread, asking the same questions over and over isn't helping anyone.

Oh dear. Sorry, was new to this and was hoping that there may be a few people who could actually genuinely answer the technical questions (thanks to the few of you that did try and help however)
Im a bit surprised at the last techy message. Chill guys. Anyways, understand now it works now and sorry to have caused so much, um, disruption.

Best from Moscow. K

Hi Kev, it's no big deal. Unfortunately what you see on this forum is what you get. With most of the people on this forum being from Britain we've no need for heated seats therefore no one has this knowledge and it seems that you're the first person doing it.

but my leather seats were very cold last winter & this has me reminiscing about the leather seats of my old Peugeot coupe, they did keep the bum warm in the winter:D

hiya....well, if youre brave enough, seems the solution is to get the carbon fibre type of pads (about 200 quid for the 4 pads and all wiring etc)...and not the 'wire' heater pads that you can't cut.
With the carbon fibre pads you can cut (carefully/apparently) the rectangle out of the lower seat passenger pad so it doesnt interfere (apparently) with the passenger occupancy sensor. The cigar lighter circuit is (apparently) rated high enough to take the positive connection. Negative to ground. Have to take the seats out - very carefully - so as not to compromise the seat belt pretensioners or scratch any trim (best to also take off the plastic lower sill trims and centre console around hand brake off first so they dont get scratched too) and then you have to carefully unhook and partly take off the upholstery (non of it too tricky as done it).....carefully put in the pads, hook up the seat covers, put the seats back in, connect up the wires, bla bla bla....

**BIG LARGE DISCLAIMER....Dont know about the realities of the Fiat warranty affects or of anything unseen about the occupancy thing sensor etc etc......but 'in theory', without too much trouble, its doable. ...and be careful with the upholstery when loosening it from the metal rods underneath (as new seat base cover is 200 quid before you start!)))

heated seats .co.uk are very helpful. No, I dont work for them! ))
The kit is the 'silver' kit...and best of all, THEY can do the job for you if you can get to buckinghamshire...

All best from moscow...and if you do-it-your-self and it goes wrong, dont blame me!!!! )))))):)....its just my research so far as noone else seems to have heated their bums on a 500 in the UK.

досвидания!! (goodbye)

Silver kit is 2 stage heat control £200 for both front seats....but £500 for fitting:eek:
will have to stay on my wishlist for now.....

had the heated seats fitted yesterday by Sol Ace (www.sol-ace.co.uk) - they did a great job, very neat:). Heats the leather within a couple of minutes.

Will put pictures up as soon as I can.
