General Your Panda's 'unofficial' top speed?!

Allowing for 'give' in the cable, non-standard wheels, 10% error, wear and tear, lack of grease, gearbox misalignment and Italianesque missdirected enthusiasm,,,,,you were probably almost tickling 30mph[)]

HHmmmmmmm

mine gets much closer to the 0 i´ll post pics next week(i´ll get them to catch some of the road so you can see the speed and not thik the car is jacked up in my driveway or something)

The amount of times i hear that my speedo must be x% out when i show them that picture is comical ;p If this is true i could look on the other paw i could have been doing 135mph :p Either way i know the speedometer is quite accurate but maybe a little out as are most cars.. not only because i've tested it against friends cars checking his speedo against mine at various speeds.. not only because you just get a feel for the speed you're doing because of the way other drivers react to your speed.. but most predominantly because, i was flying past even the bmw business boys on the autobahn when i was doing that speed [^] As i always do with my panda (as do most panda owners) i smile silently in modest glee knowing that its better than half the cars out there.. ~fin~

Does the car not fall off the jack when you take these photos?

Surely no one in their right mind drives fast without looking where they are going?????

Fix It Again Tony!
Would swap for X19, Montecarlo Spider or GT.i.e in average/poor condition! Scottish based would be nice.

ya know you've done something special when people don't believe you :) which is just as well.. sides to say my friend took it with his nokia camera phone. As a rule i don't like to drive through europe in a panda alone :D

What's the secret to speed - lucky charm on the dashboard?

On a steep motorway near where I live I can get similar results - but no photos!

My panda is a somewhat a moody beast.. sometimes it will go really fast, others it struggles to hold 80. But i think the secret is correct wind direction, a nice long hill and a good firm hand on the wheel! Mine won't hold 100 for very long.. Incidentally i've done no other mods assides the ram system..

OK so its a new Panda but I got an indicated 107 mph on a German autobahn, it was a slight downhill gradient and I have dicovered the car has a rev limiter:(

1987 126 FSM, 12" minilight style wheels, clear rear lights, smoked indicators.
2004 Panda Eleganza.... nice!

It also has a piper cam and loads of other goodies.
According to this I do about 20mph per 1000 rpm.
Theoretically, at 6500 revs I should get 130 out of it. I have had it up to 120mph on a long slightly downhill stretch of road at 3am.
And it felt like it!:D:D:D

ps. This car is still for sale. See the for sale section.
I've not tried to improve on this since, but it's still the fastest non turbo'd Panda!:D:D

Jaff Fox claims 135mph and mine isn´t turboed, the turbo almost reaches the 0 mark while my regular 1000cl can reach a bit over the 100mph(160km).:D

135mph??? what the?.... i got 115mph .. i think at 135 a panda would go into a space warp vortex and you'd arrive before you left ;p (or maybe it would just fall apart)

Just to re cap - the air pipe from the front is called a CAI (cold air induction).

On my mazda its supposed to give you around 5-12bhp depending on who you talk to where you read it. (standard mazda 1.6 has 115bhp)
;)

I did feel a difference on my 1.6 mx-5, but not worth spending too much on.

The air in front of the bumper is the only real high pressure area when driving. The air above the bonnet is fast moving ([)]) low density air.
High density means a better charge.

I was planning something when I get my panda but only to the inside of the grill or somewhere once ive had a look. I also want it to be reversable.

I dont want it to be really fast or anything - character is where its at, but I wanted to get it "breathing" easier as it should make it rev smoother. [?]

However, I think all this talk of top speeds is a bit weird.
You have nothing to prove driving a panda - its when you drive a clone-mobile that people tend to feel insecure....

When my mx-5 was standard I never felt the urge to prove anything. I knew it handled better than prety much anthing else and was a joy to drive. I also knew it was slower than a 2.0 mondeo. Now ive over 200bhp in a car thats under 1000kg. I cant stop feeling that ive to put all these TT owners in their place (which it can do without getting close to a rev limiter in any gear).

This is probably why im looking for a panda - I want to get back some of the "i dont care because im having fun" factor.

As for the speedo figs, we have loads of debate on the mx-5 forum. Most speedo's aree well out at top speed. The wheels and tyres really change things - especially if the tread is a little down. I have a G-Tech pro which will tell me the truth, although I use it mostly for comparison tuning. (cost £26...+shipping)

It's true, i regularly run my panda at 85 mph and some times passed 1ton , commute between brighton/upminster.I decided to test my top speed with a mate in a 730i beemer behind for verification.on a dead flat with no wind it reads 95/96 mph on BOTH clocks,on a SLIGHT down hill my needle is directly over the h in MPH ! mate says his needle was at 114/115 MPH.believe what you want,i know my panda is a little meanie really.
no mods ,CAT!!,999cc injection fire ,slick 50 in engine and box, everything well lubed and new wheel bearings up front.

Just because the speedometers agree means absolutely nothing about its accuracy. Even 100 speedos displaying the same means nothing.

Just for the record.
