Morning everyone

My wife has a 2018 1.2 lounge and has the yellow triangle light on the dashboard with no messages to accompany it. Checked all lights and parking sensors as precaution and they look fine.

I noticed that the manual mentions oil pressure sensor issue and oddly I have noticed that when the ignition turns on and it does it’s dash checks, the red oil pressure warning light does not illuminate.

Some googling points to a possible bad sensor that needs replacing, took a look under the car and the body of the sensor looks very corroded. Any thoughts? They seem cheap enough but wanted to know if this could be the issue?

It seems these have a metal washer attached by a thread of metal to the sensor body which seems a bit of a second rate way of ensuring they do earth. Corrosion or the connection being broken can cause issues. Un plug, carefully unscrew if you can and inspect and clean. You will see the setup easily. Some on here have reintroduced a contact with a washer and some wire to earth nearby. Its clearly a fiddle but saves buying a new sensor. From what I understand a new sensor may still not earth correctly in some cases so earthing may still be required by another route. All very irritating on such a new vehicle. The triangle of doom should not be related to the oil light and probably is referencing poor bulb contact soemwhere - almost certainly the number plate lights. Take the bulbs out and clean the bulbs and contacts and with a little luck the triangle will go away. I have had the traingel when a bulb was still working. Cleaning has worked a couple of times the other time removing the bulb finished it off.

In my handbook it shows the triangle being potentially related to oil pressure sensor fault amongst lights/parking sensors etc - is this not the case then?

I’ve got a picture of the sensor body and the ground theory could be right as it’s quite corroded

Well, its a general warning. Its normally to draw attention to things like light bulbs. I still suspect its actually not related to teh oil light fault. The main and most important warnings have red lights. I will try and locate the thread re the oil sensor warning light problem I referred to before.

Yeah the lack of the red oil warning on ignition is probably the most pressing of the two tbh if they aren’t related so that’s my immediate focus.

I suspect a reader would confirm if the sensor has thrown a fault in the circuit? Unfortunately don’t have access to one but they seem cheap enough if it’s worth it

Looking at your photo I would recommend unscrew the sensor. If you have a wire brush for electric drill carefully brush the outside of the sesor and get rid of the rust. Clean the threads and the seat and the car engine where this seat when screwed in and hopefully this will sort it. Be steady not rough when removing the sensor.

If youcan get the sensor out and can solder you could add a wire from the sensor body to its threaded end, maybe via a copper washer to regain earth. I think there should be a metal contact in the plastic body of the sensor and I guess this fails. Examination should reveal the issue which I think might be repaired at least temporarily by restoring the earths circuit with a bit of skilful bodging.

I’ve found a new sensor for £10 so it’s probably worth having that to hand if I’m taking the old one off and cleaning up the engine side, if it’s too far gone I can just swap for new and give that a go. Interesting that the one I’ve found comes with a washer too, probably for earth
