Technical What's The Recall About?

Update- turbo was replaced.

I've just got back from abroad and will pick the car up on Tuesday.

If I have any more info I'll pass it on.

I've just driven the TA for the first time since the new turbo has been fitted and indeed for the first time in nearly two weeks, as I've been away on holiday not that the fitting took so long.

I swear the engine sounds different, not so distinctive, and quieter than before.

Hmm.

Do you have an information on the make and model of the Turbo on the TA ?
If they gave you a job sheet or some paperwork on the recall work that was done - it might give this information.
If they took the old one out - realise that this is a long shot - do you have a picture of it ?

Sorry to be of no help but my wife picked up her car and there's nothing that can give you any info.

Apparently it is a certain batch of turbos and Fiat have been contacting the owners of the affected TAs.

If anyone is worried perhaps they could contact their dealer?

Just picked mine up after having the recalled turbo replaced (along with a new interior heater fan motor which had burnt out) and I too find the engine seems to run a lot smoother and with less growl. I wonder if it will improve the MPG?

I must admit I cant notice any difference, it just seems the same. And the mpg is the same as well. Only thing I notices was a bit of a smell when the engine had been running hot and you stop. It probably did this when it was new also but I just notice now the new turbo is in.

My dealer mentioned this recall when we collected our new car on Saturday. I was saying that I had heard the Twin Air fuel economy wasn't so good. The dealer told me that this has now been resolved by the recall. If I remember the conversation correctly, a "pin" in the turbo was breaking causing a loss in fuel economy.

I think we ought to put him on a Jeremy Kyle lye detector test :p

All joking aside... I dont buy the notion that early TAs were some how aflicted by something that meant fuel consumption was adversely impacted. Sorry, but I think it is a reflection of your right foot + all the other things Maxi and others have pointed out. Sure some cars have gone wrong, and some have had parts replaced, but there aint some over arching thing going on with early cars that make them drink petrol like a V12.
