Sorry. Demonstrating my ignorance of how all this modern communication/tech/whatever works, Do I do something with @portland_bill to learn about these axles? I seem to remember he did one? However I don't know what I should do with the @portland_bill to learn more?
Thank you and sorry for my ignorance.

It's so the Orange Panda owner knows we're are discussing what he has previously had the pleasure of being involved with

@Pugglt Auld Jock 👍

Just caught this before going out the door. Thanks Charlie. I understand it now. Wish I understood what to do about sim cards though - Son in law will keep us straight I'm sure. We've to buy the phone and suitable sim and he's going to set it all up for her. It'll be interesting I'm sure and prepare me for when I buy mine.

I saw how it brought the message up on my email.

Well at least Hs1 reached the north...it's a little delayed though.

Dealer emailed this morning… nothing to be done on price and the service history is what it is (2021 and 2024). He said he could reach out to the previous owner to find out if there were any other services but that doesn’t really guarantee anything does it? So not looking promising on this one
I would suggest, with any 4x4, that you look underneath to ensure it still has a propshaft. The prop centre bearing fails, available as aftermarket, but only complete prop from Fiat, so many just remove the prop and driveit as a 2wd. Subsequent owner gets a disappointment.

My replacement axle was correct for the vehicle, but came from a supplier in East London, before IM axles popped up.

Not sure about 'thicker metal' being used, as described above. Hopefully this is just the spring plates, which would be fine. If they've used thicker metal for the axle itself, that'll change the way it is supposed to flex.

I remember reading somewhere that it is indeed the spring pans which are thicker, but only by about a millimeter or maybe two, not the whole axle - which makes sense as it's (as you say) a torsional twist beam.

Is this operation known as "The Freelander check"?

Doing plenty of m-way miles lately

I spotted a car on "trade plates"

But.. It was a magnetic white rectangle

With an official emblem on the left, and a conventional RED lettered plate to the right

What a good idea 👍

shortly after, I spotted a van on the hard shoulder, orange beacons flashing

There were 2 x workmen inspecting Armco on the verge

One was using his Smartphone,
taking images by the looks..

He was wearing Rigger Gloves..!

How..?

I struggle to operate mine with bare fingers.. 🤔

on an iPhone you can program certain taps on the back of the phone to perform functions. then you can use the volume buttons on the side for the shutter. I assume android phones probably do something very similar.

My annoyance with touch screens in general is how hard they can be to use with gloves on. Apparently Volvo touch screens are designed to be used with gloves, because... well it gets cold in Sweden.

I have some good quality black leather Barber gloves I use in the winter and they just about operate the touch screen in the car. Not on my phone though.

I have un usually dry skin. I cant separate plastic sack without licking fingers. Touch screens can be a nightmare.
Maybe he was using 'The force'.

Me too, although I just thought others had clammy hands;) It does help reduce electric shocks I find, although what you say about touch screens I find with tablets, I don't own a mobile phone.
Re the plastic bags/sacks, I recall being in Morrisons one day getting frustrated and seeing a group of "trainee executives" I went up to them and said "here do something useful, open one of your sodding bags!

Same problem with rolls of plastic bin bags I have - worries me licking my fingers if I'm putting out the food or landfill waste! I also sometimes have problems with the mouse pad on my laptop not letting me easily move the pointer on the screen.

Oh deers we all have the same symptoms. It MUST be Fiats fault.

...was that the first Ford or BMW Land Rover model? I'm not sure which I'd prefer less.

But the Jaguar / Ford logo on the key, must have been a real finger up to owners of a fancy Jag at the time.
MK1 Freelander...to be fair they might do it to mk2s but they were the originals were both common and largely worthless so if the prop shaft bearings went most just removed the prop shaft.

Obviously as per 99.9% of 4wds the 4x4 was doing nothing most of the time anyway so if anything it at least improved fuel economy.
