General What is the right oil for my fiat punto sport 1.4 8v

Hello,

If you want to be calm, use engine oil with Fiat specification/advise: Fiat 9.55535-S2

I used Castrol Edge 5w-40 but last I changed to Fuchs (Fuchs 5W-40 Titan GT1 XTL)

I mean if you are not confident which oil is good for your car, just pick one which has Fiat 9.55535-S2...

For eg.:
Selénia K P.E. 5W-40
Castrol Edge 5W-40
Castrol Magnatec C3 5W-40
BP Visco 5000 C 5W-40
Fuchs Titan Gt1 5W-40
Omv Bixxol Special C3 5W-30
Liqui Moly Top Tec 4100 5W-40
Meguin Low Emission 5W-40

What about this one? ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1398450764.264365.jpg

15W-40??
No, it's definitely not good for your car! Use 5w-40 oils...

The diesel was designed for the vw/Audi group of vehicles using the pd (pump Duse) engines which had problems with the camshaft lobes so must be pretty decent stuff

Sent from my iPad using FIAT Forum

Close, but not the diesel one :)
Edge for petrol engine.

I think with using the Fuchs oil the engine noise is softer.

Yes, I know and theoretically you are right.

We've discussed it with some experts and they prefer the simple edge for petrol engine and not the diesel one even if it has a right qualification.

At the time i got the edge with turbo diesel wording it was all that was available late on evening in a motorshop chain the uk in about 2010 when i needed some to top up :)

even the standard edge has the same / more approvals than the "older" turbo diesel

Diesel:
SAE 5W-40; ACEA C3; API SM/CF, VW 502 00/ 505 00/ 505 01, BMW Longlife-04, MB-Approval 229.31/ 229.51, Renault RN0700/0710, Meets Ford WSS -M2C917-A, Meets Fiat 9.55535-S2.

newer red top:
SAE 5W-40, ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4, C3, API SN/CF, VW 502 00/ 505 00, BMW Longlife-04, MB-Approval 229.31/ 229.51, Porsche A40, Renault RN0700/ RN0710, Meets Fiat 9.55535-S2, Dexos2*

ive attached the images and also dropped a email to Castrol technical asking them the Engineer at work says their technical support is second to none having dealt with them for years, when i get a reply i'll post it :)

What's the best to use between
Fuchs Titan Gt1 5W-40 or Castrol Edge 5W-40 or
Castrol Magnatec C3 5W-40

Someone said Fuchs Titan Gt1 5W-40 makes your engine sound quieter?

a maximum of 3.2l to full on the dipstick but add a bit at a time in case you failed to get all the old oil out you dont want to over fill it

https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/210683-oil-change-1-2-8v.html

the 1.4's have a metal brace on some which gets in the way of the drain plug but ive not had a problem using a standard alan key and a ring spanner slipped over it for added leverage.......

if i was you i'd invest in a set of these

http://www.screwfix.com/p/hilka-lon...p=Search-_-SearchRec-_-Area1&_requestid=65557

makes the oil filter so easy to remove (other types that clamp by the end dont work as they get stuck against the exhaust manifold)

If your looking for a new filter which should be replaced at the same time you can get original fiat filters here for £3.38 plus postage (which is more than the item but if your doing a service no doubt you'll be doing the air filter, spark plugs and the like
