i had just started secondary school
Well this takes it back... you people are lucky, when we started we were running of an access database on what can only be described as one of the slowest rented hosts ever!
It really was appalingThings started to pick up a lot when the first host switch went (to Kiwihost in January 2003) as we finally had a decent speed (which i swear before must have put so many people off).
Converted snitz (www.snitz.com) to vBulletin in July/August 2004 - then the dedicated box was setup January this year....
I wonder where we'll be in another 3 years....? :chin:
and people are still too tight to donate the odd £5-£10 now and againSeeing as this already got dragged up last week, I might as well fill in the blanks.
By October-ish 2006 the forum was too big to be handled by a single machine and had gone into massive slowdown. It actually took 3 months to rectify this though - with the two new machines (1 web and 1 database) going into operation in January 2007.
At the same time, location was switched from Dallas to New York. NY being picked as it had the shortest hop time to the UK, whilst not being *too* pricey.
This config held out until a few months back when the webserver was upgraded to a dual quad core and the backend converted to PHP5.
So there you go![]()
I was in my first year at uni - i blame this forum for my failure![]()
