Hello.

I got some recommendations of a water pump and belt kit to use.

I have been told either Gates or Dayco.

How many teeth would I know what my car has and which would you choose out of these brands or would you suggest another?

Thank you.

Yes it's a petrol 1.2 car. I was advised to get either Gates or Dayco, but any others your recommend or are these good choices?

I hear Gates have special grooves on the belts.

And how many teeth variant would I need for my car?

Thanks
FCA is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles :)

The ‘belt’ is the engine timing belt. This is not an easy thing to replace: several previous posts about issues where it wasn’t quite done right. A set of Fiat engine locking tools is advised as well. (I’m assuming this is a 1.2 car?)

When you order the part - eg from Shop4Parts, they will select the right part based on your VIN (chassis) number, which they can look up from your registration plate. Are you planning to fit it yourself? As well as the belt and pump, a new tensioner might be a good move too - they’re whole kit will have this. Have a read of a few other posts here, such as this one for starters - then scroll down to ‘similar threads’ to see more :)

Gates seem to be noisier than Dayco.
Personally I use FCA or SKF by choice, but I would be happy to use the other two if they were not available.

Any reason why SKF are so much cheaper. I think eurocarparts is selling the SKF full set for £35

They are not usually that much cheaper. Is it a full SKF kit (SKF belt, SKF tensioner and SKF water pump), or have they put together bits from random companies?
I've had this before from a supplier I no longer use, although I would hope ECP would know better.

As I haven't got your car's details I can't be sure, that was only an example, but its what I've used on a 2013 Panda, as well as various 500s, a Ford Ka and late 169 Pandas, which *probably* have the same engine. Fiat part number is 71776007, and it has 129 teeth.

Check yours in EPER (link at top of forum page) for definitive information.

My reg is YO15 WPD if you can check please

I can't check from registration number, only the VIN, and it isn't a good idea to post your VIN on a public forum.
If you follow the EPER link above, and enter your VIN number, you can check it yourself.
Perfect thank you.

I just purchased the SKF one, was £38.99 :).

My mechanic friend can fit for £80
