Hi,

I'm new to the Fiat 500 world. I have just helped my daughter buy a 2014 Fiat 500s. Car seems lovely, REALLY FUN TO DRIVE! The stereo is already upgraded for Apple Carplay so the only thing she doesn't like is the speedo so I'm trying to work out how complicated it would be to upgrade it to one of the digital units. I've seen a few videos where people are saying that they are all cross compatible and that any features not compatible with your car like TPMS just disable themselves. From there it looks like MultiECUScan to change the mileage and run a proxi alignment.

Is that true? Are all Fiat 500 digital speedos compatible or do I need to stick within a couple of years? Is there anywhere you can check which years are supported by which part numbers?

It looks pretty straightforward but just wanting a bit of reassurance before spending £150ish on the gear.

Thanks
Colin

My wife has a 2019 500 S with the standard speedo. Is a digital version a straight swap for it, assuming similar year of part or is there coding required to get things to work?
If its straightforward id happily change it but cant be doing with something which 'nearly works'.

Daft question, what's wrong with the standard one such that it needs swapping or augmenting with a digital display?
Hi I notice you have a 2019 model which I believe has a digital display incorporated. As you will notice on the pre 2016 Abarth model there is no digital display on the speedo, also the speedo is a little more complex to read therefore a digital display is far easier to read at an instant. On the start of this thread Colinbeaumont was asking if his daughters speedo can be replaced with the newer model speedo that you have.

I don't have a Fiat 500, hence my question.

I've never seen a non-digital one either, what's the issue with them (other than pauper spec)

There's nothing really wrong with the analog display, but I personally find it hard to read and it looks a bit cheap.
The TFT screen gives the car a more modern look inside and it can also display more information and is easier to read.
When I was shopping for my 500, I had a list with 6 "must haves", In no particular order: convertible, mileage, price, color, TFT screen, climate control.

Sorry for the delayed response guys, not been online. My daughter struggles reading the dials on the standard speedo and finds the digital much easier, nothing more than that. Since putting the original post out I managed to source a part, fit it and it works a charm. It was a 09/2015 digital speedo and worked just like everyone described. Thanks so much to you all for the advice.

Which car play stereo did you buy? I bought one off Amazon but I had go return it as the usb ports didn't work.

I think "00" for byte 65 is actually Pop/Lounge and "20" is Sport.
I've been scraping Fiat forums for those MES Hex strings. I'm trying to map the bytes to settings, but so far I have only 10.
So to everyone who happens to have a string, let me know :). Please provide as many information as you can. (engine, gearbox, navigation, convertible yes/no, carplay, blue&me...)
I have set it to to "60" (Abarth) although I have a 500 Lounge because it has the Sport mode. (I configured the City button to be a Sport button, making the car more lively)
Hello.
Help me please.

Hi Panek,
Looks like Byte 83, is out of allowable range. Is that the one you have changed?

Also have you tried changing the button in the MES prog?

Did you try the other method? It should write the original value back.

Yes, MES did not make a PROXY and left the standard value of the ECO button. AlfaOBD was also unable to change ECO to SPORT. Maybe in cars of 2018 a different byte needs to be edited? MEC and AlfaOBD only know older BODY?

My list of original values shows byte 83 = 08.
You may need to set it twice, and wait 15 seconds before turning key off, and 10 before turning back on.
I tried to change mine a very long time ago whilst exploring MES. I never managed it either. But never really cared about it.
In the original PROXY I have byte 83 = 08, and the button works like ECO, I need it to work like SPORT.
Should I try to edit the PROXY manually, and change byte 83 = 00?
And after that run the PROXY alignment procedure twice?
