I’ve re posted this thread from the motorhome section hopefully someone can assist.
I have an ongoing issue with the Uconnect 10 headset, no DAB stations in the DAB function the scan search arrows << & >> don’t appear to do anything when pressed as though it can’t or won’t scan DAB channels, can only scan and store limited FM stations, Speaker icon with “audio system unavailable” warning light on the dash I’ll try to post a couple of pictures there’s also an intermittent fault with the reverse cam. This either works perfectly or just gives a blue screen when selecting reverse very intermittent either works or doesn’t.
We have good DAB reception in our area with no DAB issues with our other vehicles either.
Bought privately we had to put into storage due to illness, warranty had expired by the time we were able to use the van.
Previous owner claims there were no faults but pre-sale he cleared the unit of all personnel data from the phone directory, nav & pre-selected radio stations.
Fiat customer services have offered to honour a warranty claim at their discretion only if the fault lays with Fiat but I have to pay for any repairs upfront and it must be through the Fiat main dealership.
My gut feelings are this is going to be expensive going through the dealership with no guarantee of any refund. The compulsory OBD check is £120 before even they start to look for faults.
Has anyone else had this problem? or had experience with Fiat warranty?
Many thanks for any help or advice.

Hello,

It looks to me like an antennae problem. I'd start by taking the unit out and check the antennae connection on the back of the unit. And other connections, too.
I agree, I had a go at removing the head unit but struggled removing the heater vents either side of the unit from the dash. Even with the trim removal tool it felt like something was going to break.
Question. If it is a bad antennae issue would the unit display some kind of bad signal message?

Can you post a photo of the dashboard, especially the area of the radio unit of you van?

On the previous models removing the dashboard trim was not necessary to remove the radio, but as far as I could see on the photos, the 2020+ models have radio units screwed on the sides.

Again, on my x250 I had to replace the plastic document holder (as it was broken) and after removing a couple of screws and lifting the holder up I had access to the back of the radio unit and the connectors.

If the van is still under warranty I'd NOT dismantle anything on my own.

Hi and thanks for taking the time to reply.
I keep the motorhome in storage so don’t have access to take any photographs at short notice so I’ve attached a web picture of the same dash but with the smaller head unit. It’s a 2022 cab and you’re correct the 10” head unit is secured by 4 screws 2 either side located underneath the heater vents and 2 easily accessible screws at the top of the head unit. I’ve got van booked
In for a diagnostic check and investigation at my expense as the warranty has expired. Fiat will honour the warranty if there’s a Fiat fault so I wanted to check the basics, connections etc first

OK :)

Can you take out the element to which the green arrow is pointing to? I see they've remodelled the interior, but it could be whats underneath is still the same :D

In the x250 (and I assume also the x290 until 2018) it was possible to get to the connections on the back of the radio unit.

I've just checked the other thread and yes, adding anything to the installation could have made a mess :( Check the PM.

Update on this issue.
The OBD test carried out by Fiat didn’t find any issues but the tech found a “loose connection” to the headset which has re-enabled DAB but nothing found regarding the reverse cam issue. Fiat rightly claim the camera is not their problem as it was installed by the coach builders so it’s back to Burstner again. They did however recommended trying a Uconnect software update to see if that corrects the problem but were unable to do this as they say it’s against company policy to carry out updates on site which I found bizarre. As I can’t fit the vehicle on my drive I need to find a location that has a secure internet connection accessible by password and download any updates by WiFi. I still think this is clutching at straws and I’m sure it’s a hardware fault. After all the to-ing and fro-ing between Fiat and Burstner the van is getting further and further out of warranty so I’m not confident Burstner will honour any repairs they originally thought the fault was the headset and suggested I take it up with Fiat
Any thoughts/suggestions on the software update and or anything that I could put to Burstner regarding the reverse cam as it’s been about 6months since I reported the fault. Apparently the warranty period of 24months expired last April and I notified them in June 2 months out of warranty

An update might take a fair amount of (mobile) data, but would it be possible to use a mobile phone, and turn on its mobile hotspot feature to provide a secure connection source? (it's a facility available on most Android/iPhones).
I’ve tried this before but nothing seems to happen after it’s connected to my phone I think it should start to scan for available updates but does nothing. Looking on the internet it seems the headset looks for a connection with password access which my hotspot doesn’t have. No experience with this so not sure if it’s correct or not either way I’m not convinced a software update will cure an intermittent fault but I’ll give it a try before handing it back over to Burstner

You are trying WiFi hotspot rather than bluetooth tethering? (I haven't seen a WiFi hotspot setting that doesn't require a password).
Hmm that’s interesting and thanks for your reply. I set the phone’s hotspot on and Bluetooth tethering on to share the phones internet connection. The radio headset detects the phone and I select it to connect but I don’t recall any password requests from the headset or any further instructions on how to progress. Maybe I’m missing something.
Luckily the fault presented itself while at the dealership I asked the tech about me using my hotspot to update while I was there to see if it made any difference, he advised against it saying to use a home or shared internet connection with password. I assumed he was concerned about the connection dropping out during the update. I could find the dealers network but he asked me not to use that without giving any reason why.

Just set the phone's WiFi hotspot on (with bluetooth off). When you set the hotspot on, looking at the settings under that gives you the WiFi Network name and password (you might have to touch the password field to reveal the value). Hopefully, your radio should see the network (which, unless you change its name will likely have one derived from some of your 'phone values/settings).

Drop out is rarely a major problem unless you're in an "iffy" reception spot.

Very useful, many thanks. I’ll give it a try ASAP we’ve got a severe weather warning here for the next couple of days so not sure when I’ll be able to get there but I’ll keep you informed.

Following my posts regarding a long running issue with the Uconnect 10 headset having no DAB and an intermittent reverse cam blue screen fault just after the warranty had expired I think everything is close to getting sorted. Didn’t take out headset as Fiat service Italy offered to take a look at the headset as gesture of goodwill under warranty provided I pay for an OBD check at the main dealership. They found the DAB fault was a wiring issue but the blue screen was a Burstner issue the dealer who supplied the vehicle had repeatedly fobbed me off claiming the issues to be with Fiat when I returned after having the DAB sorted they informed me they were no longer Burstner dealers and weren’t taking any new business. Great! Nearest Burstner dealer now was Camper UK in Lincoln, what a revelation! After just one phone call they informed me the blue screen could be a known fault and arranged with Burstner to have the camera replaced FOC but I pay 1 hrs labour as it’s out of warranty, informed me there’s a recall on the hab door window and are trying to reinstate the damp warranty with Burstner as I unintentionally missed a hab and damp test last year. Can’t praise Camper UK enough and anyone having Fiat warranty issues I recommend getting in touch with Fiat Italy service team they too were very helpful. The sad thing is all this could have been solved while the warranty was still valid the original dealers wouldn’t even look at the van, just passed it off as a Fiat issue not their problem 🤬
