The FS Birthday Weekender

The FS Birthday Weekender

Fort William to Appelcross means going thru Lochcarron were I live, and certainly all over the area nearby.
So count me in!!! Might be able to get few others from area to join to.

Been rather inactive as my Punto has survived 3 accidents over past year so been rather put down, just working hard to keep the car together and get me to work. :(

But now the weather picking up got that buzz and feeling back to bring my Punto back to life :D

This event is just what i need to give me a boost to get my punto looking decent and deadline to get it done by, hoping to be active again on here as will need tips on the many minor outstanding repairs and maybe even get her show worthy :)

Just found out that on the car show on the Sunday there will be 2 X1\9 entering will see if we can get them to bolt on to the FS stand.

Sounds good!

Rough plan from looking at AA route planner etc...

Mike and I will set off from Alford at around 0630am on the Saturday - this should get us to Fort William for around 10am.

The plan is to meet at the Morrisons Car Park for 10am, leaving at approx 10.30am.

Morrisons postcode is PH33 6AN

There is a fuel station and McDonalds on site. Both, I suspect, will be required.

From Fort William we head north - A82 -> (head for Loch Garry) A87 -> A890 -> A896 until Tornapress where the turn off to The Applecross pass is signposted. Our next full stop will be the Applecross Inn. Postcode IV54 8LR Distance covered approx 105 miles

All being good we will stop here at approx 1.30pm/2.00pm.

I'd suggest lunch here as that will be around 3 hours driving. Smaller stops en route can be accomodated but remember we're in the middle of nowhere.

From Applecross Inn to Inverness is 80 miles - around 2hrs 30 mins driving.

Realistically I reckon we'd hit Inverness at around 5.30pm/6.00pm. From here we could do our usual and head for the nearest Weatherspoons. I gather parking in the city may be difficult so we can look at options when we get there.

Saturday night/Sunday (as per everyones own accomodation arrangements) the travel from Inverness to Forres is around 30 miles - 40 minutes trave time.

SUNDAY VENUE

Grant Park, Forress - Postcode :IV36 3BN

From what I remember chatting to Martin, and from the event website, gates open at 9am so we should aim to be in sharp to get a good pitch. The event is on until around 4.30pm at which point we call it a day.

Hope the above helps everyone - any questions please just ask and I'll try and help. Remember folks this is quite a long drive (I'm reckoning I'll have the panda on the road for approx 12 hours) so please remember to prepare accordingly. Take supplies, take whatever you think you'll need in the middle of nowhere.

Cheers,
Martyn

If you lot are going over Applecross are you going past Muir of ord if you are you will be passing the bike rally i will be at :) give me a phone if you do, still not sure yet on what i am doing may pop over and see you on sunday in forres depending on the state i am in when i get back to nairn lol!!! ;) will take the ratmister if i do ;)

This is gonna sound strange b4 i get the opportunity to explain, but has anyone got accommodation in Inverness for the Saturday night, that i could get a lift to Forres to the show on Sunday with please??

Im likely going to be passenger with Martyn, (there's no point taking my Fiesta!) but i am staying with my girlfriend in Inverness over night, so martyn would drop me off saturday evening, so would need a lift down to Forres in the morning for the show.

Thanks :)

Still havent remembered to check. I have your number somewhere i think but gimme a shout on the saturday and we can sort somethin out?

This is looking great guys, many attendees! I think I might head from Lochcarron to Elgin friday and stay over at my wife's :) then buzz over to Fort William for the meet and convoy Saterday morn. then on way back Appelcross-inverness I'll cary on to Elgin and then Sunday join you for 9am in Forres. Got my diggs sorted that way.

I deffinitly can't recommend enough what Martin says and carry extra "just in case" stuff. I work/live up in the Highlands and it is remote and we will be driving 3+ hour stretches without petrol stations or garages or food shops. So check/take spare wheel, jack kit and maybe a second spare if you got (maybe handy for others too!) Toolkit, snacks and defo drinks oohh and loo roll :p (not many leaves around just prickly goursebush haha!)

We will be driving long stretches so if ur car has any minor issues be prepared for it to become a major one just incase and if you can have a spare part handy for it with tools to do a road side repair/tweak, as there's no way we can push the car up hills 50 or 100 miles to nearest garage. We will be in a convoy so of course can help eachother out right!? :)
