Bought a.2 year old punto evo in December, only covered 16000 miles & can't fault it, only the rear lights mist up, is there a fix for this? Got a 3rd year dealer warranty but guess what, tail lights ate not covered on this & fiat tell me they all do it. Any help is welcome.

I'll remove them &have a look. These are the lexus looking lights. Where abouts is the hole located on the outer lenses, cheers.

Lexus looking lights? So not standard? Piccys?

Me and MEP thought you were on about the standard fit ones. But the hole is near enough dead center on the light unit if it is a Punto Evo that you have.

I have the orignal Punto 2012 tail lights (they are the same as the evo) and in some conditions, have a bit of mist inside.
But it disapear rapidly.

Conditions include when the sun hit a part of the light, and not the whole piece. In this case, mist can be see inside.

If this is small, don't worry

Plastic lamps with large sections of internal lighting create heat, this heat has to be vented, hence the holes, in certain conditions when the lamps are switched off, as the lamp cools, the hot air in the lamp draws air back inside the lamp, if the air is damp then moist air enters the lamp causing misting. Its physics.

The problem with the 2012/evo tail lights is the "navigation light" (please tell me how you call this in english) are in LED, and LED generate quite no heat.

Only brake and turn signal lights are classical bulbs, and they are on briefly... So not a lot of heat to heat up the light and evacuate mist....

They are standard. They have the LED lights down the side, sorry if I miss led you, they are just different from my neighbors punto which is same year but different model. :-D

cheers guys, I think I was worrying over nothing. Seems to be very common by what I've been told. Panic over.:-D

Yes, you right, the Grande Punto has "non crystal" standard lights with bulbs. Evo and Punto 2012 have "crystal" style with mix of led / bulbs

If it is just a few and not always present, no problem.. if you are not sure post a pic ;)

What holes?

mine dont have any holes?

the moisture is most likely to get in via the cable duct from the car warm moist air from the cabin can enter the lamps

notice the clear patch between the brake light and the indicator after a reasonable drive?

well a day off work and i decided to de mist mine anyhow,,,,

no holes in my lenses but back of the lamp....

cover off

as you can see with the cover off that duct where it plugs in can carry warm moist air from the cabin directly in to the lamp units

the damp can cause other issues cant see any other reason for this:

spent a good hour removing flecks of orange varnish from inside the lights using cotton wool buds on copper wire.... and compressed air
