What was wrong with the car in Somerset??

hmmmmm, it looked ok in the piccies but the chap wanted 4k, without looking too hard I found it......

- needed a new downpipe
- needed a new cat back exhaust (mid and rear section)
- new CAM cover (broken in one corner and leaking oil)
- had an oil leak between the engine and g'box (tbh could have been a result of the cam cover but very hard to tell - if not it could be the main bearing)
- was at 60k but only had documented service to 40k/2003 plus a few receipts
- the hood was ill fitting and worn in the corners
- rubbers were 'not well' and did not meet
- needed a front end re-spray (LOTS of stone chips and some badly repaired body damage)
- 3rd gear was clunky
- 3rd-2nd was hard to engage
- alloys were chipped

On the positive side it was quite solid, not much in the way of rust in the usual places, went quite well, brakes were recent and worked well....

I would have estimated 750-1k of work (assuming it did not need a main bearing) to make it good-ish, but given that I paid 2.9k for LRB I felt it was over priced. The chap may get 4k for it once it is polished/waxed but it won't be to a FF owner!!

The buyer who asked me to look at the car with him is on the look out for a b and has a budget of circa 4k, ideally is looking for a red car, fsh, comfort pack (leather, passenger a/b, fog's etc) but would consider another colour/spec for the right car..............if anyone out there is looking to sell their b and think it fits the spec drop me a pm! Well, as some of you may have guessed, my Barchetta is up for sale.
The main reason being that I am about to take up a new post as a Loadmaster, flying all over the world on board 747 freighters. I will be based in Luxembourg on a six week on, two week off basis so the B would be getting even less use than she has had in my ten months of ownership, I have covered less than a thousand miles since buying her/it.
You have probably guessed that LRB was interested in buying it but decided that his current B was as good as mine so I have advertised it on Pistonheads.com and I am also about to put it on ebay.
I intend to stay on the Forum if you want me!! Although my input will be less than it has been:(/:) (that depends on your point of view!!).

Good luck selling it SS, you have to keep posting on the B forum as you are one of the main contributors. (y) I see things slowing down on the forum for a while. We lost an active B owner a few years ago now and things slowed until you, LRB, and one or two others turned up.

(y)

I will mod on !! :slayer:

When you sell the B SS, you must tell the new owner to take up your Barcheta thread and keep posting whats going on with the car.

Yup, SS and I met up on Saturday with a view to me buying his b and I have to say that she is a nice clean car. I was only looking to change mine as the yellow peril has 20k less miles than mine plus it is one of the very last mk1's with the boot light.....

My main reason for not 'doing the deal' is that looking at SS's car I realised just how clean mine is - apart from the miles they are both in the same condition!

Wheels are nice, oil gauges look good, SS did a nice neat job of the amp/speakers, someone will get a nice car.......

As for staying on the forum if you stop posting - 'I know where you live!!'........ :D

Oh, and I have to say 'RED is best'!!!! :p:p:p

Thats a shame your selling, lovely looking motor, you kept it very clean(y)
All the best with the new job too, sounds like fun. Hope all goes well and you sell the car for what its worth to someone who will treat it right

mark

if i were you, i'ld just drive it over here for usage on the days you're not flying ... there IS some good asphalt on some lovely winding roads through the hilly landscape around here ...

for the other days.. just park it in one of the free P+R 's ... since Lux isn't the crime-capital of the world, the wheels will still be on it when you return after a week :)
(unless i find out where its parked :) )

PS: i assume a LuxAir/CargoLux job? How long to recalc the distribution? At the time we could do a twinline A300 in under a minute :)
Damn, i'm jalous, i DO miss working on an airport sooo much.
