I think FIAT have every right to charge you to reset it, but I cannot see how they can demand proof of servicing before doing the reset.

stoneacre fiat refused to reset it unless i have proof of servicing , when i first got it it was serviced at a place in lincoln with a stamp in the book, this time ive done the service myself, but they wont reset it, and at the end of the day i know i have done a good service on the car,, and always willl... so if they want to lose 30 quid for resetting a service light, then oh well not my problem... 30 quid in my pocket!!

sorry but I agree,there must be proof...no offence to yourself but I never reset a service counter unless proof (often a phone call to garage) is given after all its my name on the printout.

dont mean they were fitted or fitted to that car...not being akward by the way & have no doubt Steely is more than capable but its possible other people are not.

dont get me wrong, I do agree with it too, because when it comes to selling as a second hand motor you can fake service history, (which is about 40% of all 2nd hand cars anyway!)

but just a bit of a bummer on my part... i just prefer to service things myself, i did with all my bikes, and will do with most of my cars, im a service engineer by trade so used to it :)

Our local main dealer only charges £79 for a BronzeCare service, and that includes service counter reset, which effectively means you're only paying £49 (79-30) for the service (y)

Bit of a bummer if you've already done the service though :(

Ok, but if a customer asks for the service indicator to be reset, then thats what happens? Where does it say that it is a requirement that proof of a service be a prerequisite, especially one deemed to be FIAT-worthy?

I see your point though T completely, but your not validating a service are you - it's just a reminder reset.

I see the Bravo doesn't do days just mileage, and with 18000 miles I've got a few years yet :D.

I'm gonna agree to disagree on this one - I don't see why proof of service is required as it is the customer's responsibility to service it, and if they are paying a FIAT dealer to reset the reminder, then the FIAT dealer should carry out their request.

I can see why people service their own Stilo's though - cost of a FIAT service makes it a write-off :p. Tee hee hee, waits for the flack!

But when some people buy a car & service light is on it puts them off buying it as they think its not been serviced and is a shed.Loads threads here saying they need service light out as selling car etc

(Argonoughts services are only £79)

But in this circumstance surely it's up to the purchaser to go through the service history (i.e. books, receipts etc) to see where / how often the car is being serviced? I wouldn't buy a car without looking at it's history on the premise that the service light wasn't on.

but you only buy new cars:)

what is car came with no history though (or "sorry mate I lost it") but service light was out....at least you know its been serviced in last year.

Its not much of an issue for me really, And i agree partly with Rich as far as if you are wishing to pay for the service interval to be reset, wich for the same 30 is the same as the Health check they offered me when i bought it, and im sure that factor such as oil/filter/coolant/brakefluid can be checked for being new,


But also i do think that if the car is not of a satifactory condition that they refuse to reset it, as for example

1,Customer offers to buy car private, under the condition that its serviced,


2,Then the guy who is selling the car pays 30 quid to have service reset done,

the guy buying private is screwed over as he believes its been serviced, and thinks he has 12k of service free miles,

i see that reason 100%

good reasoning.....if i'm confident it has been correctly serviced i'll reset it for nothing.Saves any arguments in future of arguing seller/buyer.

I think this is very true (y)

If I looked at a Stilo, with a view to buy, and the service light was on and then on closer inspection noticed it was year out of date then I'd just walk away.

Sure the owner might protest "but I can prove it's been regularly serviced..." but I'd simply take the view that if the owner cared so little about the service reminder then there must be a whole stack of other things the owner didn't care about as well. :(

Of course, if the service light WAS OK then I'd still want to look at the service book anyway just to make sure.

If he was selling the car for what £3/4K etc then £30 or whatever isn't much nor is a £79 bronze service really is it.Will no doubt help buyer actually buy the car.(y)

Have reset a few service lights recently on examiner for customers off the street, just charged them 0.5 no questions asked. End of the day, they can either pay us £35 to do it or they can go somewhere else who odds on will do it cheaper via a bodge bit of software, so why send them away. Someone that adiment to get it reset will go to any lengths to get it turned off. And the fact you get 0.5 to reset it and it litterely takes 5 mins, its a win win situation for the company and the customer
