yet another daft question.
The car is a 1993 selecta Panda and it has been off the road for some time now. I am finally getting round to doing some work on it.It has been raised up just now while I am doing the brakes, and I noticed that when you select any of the gears the wheels do not turn round. Even when revved, neither the wheels nor the driveshafts turn round. Is this normal?

It Could be your torque converter (auto box clutch). Or it could even be the selector cable, does it feel like the gear lever is doing anything? Or just flopping about in the breeze??
Either way, your best off getting a gearbox place to have a look.
Fingers crossed its not ur box!! [V]

K&N Induction Kit On A Panda?? Never!!!

Hi Pete,
gear lever seems to be slightly stiff when moving up and down the gears, and I have noticed that there seems to be a small short circuit (all of the red indicators come on when moving gearstick)
I think I will have a look at the control unit at the weekend. It seems a little weird that it is exhibiting signs of some electrical problems in the same area as the control unit.
I'll keep you posted. Like I said before, I will get this car back on the road or die in the process.

The wheels will turn on an automatic box, with the engine running in;
1st
2n
3rd
Drive
Reverse
Park (this may not happen, it is only like leaving a manual car in gear when parked)
Good luck with the box. Fingers crossed it's nothing serious. They can be expensive, just dont say that to the car, they tend to listen and break down. ;)

K&N Induction Kit On A Panda?? Never!!!

Hi Pete,
had a look this evening. Short circuit was just a slight problem with the selector on the gearstick. I removed the centre console and check the connectors to the ECU. They seemed alright. So I guess I'm going to have to remove the starter and have a look at the brushes to the clutch.
While I remember, do you happen to know how much the doors are to replace (usual start to the rust)
Andy

There are places that will sell good second hand doors - unfortunately I don't have the info here. PM me and I'll look in the morning!

Hope it isn't the gearbox. My 124 Special's auto gearbox died Christmas 1979 and it cost me £400 to fix it :(

Well I finally got round to swapping the brushes on the transmission side. And lo and behold the wheels started turning. Great I thought, I have finally turned the corner.
But just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, the damn thing stopped again.
so the question is...as I have only replaced the brushes (with a second hand set) is this the likley cause of the problem.
It seems to be an electrical issue with the transmission not kicking in, but I haven't got a clue.
Any help would be gratefully received
andy
