Hi folks
Got a Seicento sporting W reg.
Front wipers stopped working on my way back home this evening..
I can hear the motor chugging away but the blades are parked half way across the screen so I'm guessing a linkage has failed.
Both wipers are still connected to each other (push one and it moves the other)
Can't look at it easily as it's blowing a gale with horizontal rain and I've got no cover
to work under...

Anyhoo, it all looks well buried so question is, what's the best method of getting at it
and is there a likely suspect that might be causing the failiure?

Any help would be great...(y)

Regards
Philip

Difficult to guess, but something will have fallen to bits.

Access is pretty easy -- just remove the carpet stuff on the engine firewall (bonnet side) and all will become clear.

If it comes to the worst, the mechanism on all Centos are identical -- although some seem to have more speeds than others (motor and stalk).

Spray grease (not WD40) on all pivots and bushes keeps them going.

Ahhhh right!
Thanks for that..
Out of interest, which side is the motor unit nearest to looking from the front?

I'm guessing that since the motor is turning and nothing else is then it's going to
be a part nearest the motor assy...

Anyhoo, that's all to look forward to tomorrow..

Cheers for the response(y)

I think the motor is right on the passenger side (RHD).

The linkage will have come off the motor.

This will be because the spindles have started to seize putting extra load on the linkage.

Strip the spindles out and clean up/grease/refit

Cheers

OK, had a look this morning..
The motor is indeed on the passenger side thankfully so easier to get to.

The long linkage arm had popped off the end of the small arm which is bolted
to the motor/gearbox.

The plastic domed cap is still there but there are remenants of what looks like maybe
a larger diameter plastic washer (part of the domed cap?)
Anyhoo, the linkage arm is now able to just throw itself off from around the domed cap.
Have spray greased the wiper arm spindles and they are now nice and free.
Also, as a temporary bodge, I've put a couple of cable ties around the domed nut
so that the likage arm can't just fly off..

Going to hunt around for a new or second hand unit as I gather the plastic cap isn't
a part supplied on its own...

Out of interest, is that domed cap likely to be removable without breaking it?

Thanks for all the help guys...much appreciated..:worship:
