Hi there, I’ve had my fiat 500 since July 2023 and not had a problem. For around 2 months I’ve noticed that after a while of driving (heater on as it’s been freezing) there’s a screeching noise coming, sometimes it goes away and then comes back. My dad took it to the garage in case it was the fan belt and they checked everything, put it on a ramp and drove it around and could not find any issue… I’ve not had any warning lights come up but I was just wondering if this is normal and any advice xx

Hi does the noise appear only whilst driving or also when stationary, engine running?
Do you use the AC?
Hi the noise only appears while driving and it doesn’t appear straight away only after a while of driving, it does stop when I use brakes I use the warm heater everyday not the AC since summer

Totally unrelated but leave the ac on.
Your description tends to suggest its brake related, I'd have all the brakes front and rear properly checked and serviced not just " looked over" at 14 years old it could be tge rears as they get so little use if drums not so if discs check the fronts first

You'd check at what speed, gear, cold or hot engine, with clutch in or clutch pressed too, and noise happen more when braking.

If the issue happens on hot engine, the test drive may not have shown anything.

Unlikely to be the drive belt
(that's normally when cold) 😉

My money is on the front pads rubbing the disc lightly,
Applying brake pressure will take up the slack

Our car did exactly that 👍

Common issue on the 500 and Panda, but cheap and easy to fix 😊

I’ll tell my dad but they checked the brakes it only happens when it’s been driving for a while ?

Yep but when I was driving as the surface of the road changed the squeaking would stop ?
