Most garages won't have the proper equipment.

You need to check under load (ie, boost), which is difficult to obtain at a standstill, so leak spray is little use.

Most tuners will have a large bung with a tyre valve-type end which is fitted in place of the airfilter, and pressurise the whole system at 1bar or more with compressed air while seeing how quickly it drops/where it leaks from.

Would somewhere that does dyno runs be able to test this for me?

Another question, do you guys' Bravo's make an extremely audible dump valve noise? I have never heard any others making this sound stock so I'm quite confused.

Not confusing the sound with the Intake noise are yah? If not, have you looked for any aftermarket parts attached to your hoses?

When I accelerate then let go it goes PEEEWT! Definetely sounds like a BOV And if i'm putting a lot of strain on the engine, like if i'm in 3rd or 4th going up a hill at about 30mph with the accelerator floored, it makes the same sound but like constant PEEEEEEEEEEEEE until I let go --EEEWT!

I can't see anything obviously different in the engine bay. I have a video of the noise, i'll upload it now.

hey Guys,

I have TMCd by FIAT Bravo 150 T-Jet Sport and around once every 2-3 weeks the car will go in limp mode.

When I switch it off and restart the car usually after a minute or so it goes back to normal..

I put the TMC box around 2years ago but it seems to be happening more lately... The car runs like a dream however...

I have an "older" TMC box which cannot be dialed down between 0 and 9....

Does anyone know what setting between 0 and 9 these older boxes run at??

Thanks

P.S my car makes those noises but not all the time I think it depends on the weather outside....

Please excuse the sound of me chewing gum :p

Mine makes a similar sound, just not as audible. Although my ones not as powerful as yours ^_^ Mine especially does it when being laboured as you say, 30mph uphill in 4th. Mine was really loud going up a hill at 40mph in 6th =P I deliberately labour the engine sometimes (Know I shouldn't) because I like the sound. I'll see if I can take a video later for yah

Done it mate. Don't try this at home kids  After several failed attempts due to traffic noise, wind and even my keys rattling i had a brain wave. So I put my £500 iPhone under the bonnet and voila!

It's not as noticeable as yours due to yours being more powerful, and I hope none of the quality was lost in the compression but here yah go =] :

In both of them you'll hear the bonnet shut then about 20 secondish in you'll hear the phantom BOV

That doesn't sound normal
The only time I have had a car go into limp home mode is when the hose was worn through, it would take ages to spool up then over boost
Sounds alike

It might not sound normal, but it sounds pretty damn cool. I'm thinking it pretty much has to have an aftermarket BOV because it makes this sound a lot and it's extremely loud. Weird though, because the only previous owner was a 40 year old woman...

Like I said earlier, the car runs mint apart from the few times it's gone into limp. And it doesn't feel like any power has ever been lost since I bought the car/put the tuning kit on it.

It's due a service soon anyway, so i'll just take the kit off the car and say to them to check the hoses and stuff. :)

Pete, that does sound similar, only mine makes a squeak and yours sounds like a breath.

I think the older boxes would run on setting "6", try having it at "5" though and see how that is. I think thats what mine is on just now and i'm having no problems currently.

I have a similar sound - well, sort of - which is there since I bought the car. Sounds like air escapes somewhere. Brought the car to the dealer, turbo was tested for pressure and all was fine. Haven't bothered with that since.

Another guy here (Swiko) had the same issue and tried a couple of thinks (changed turbo valves, etc.) - no change. He too has the TMC by the way and said he got the noise only with the TMC fitted. Me, on the other hand, don't have TMC, so I guess it's just the way these turbos sound like :)

Whitebravo, I would presume yours'll sound different because you have a more powerful engine and are running TMC.

When this is video was made, was it with the K&N fitted? Because that would also change the sound as I have a K&N fitted and noticed a distinct change in noise.

And mine was taken from under the bonnet as apposed to in the cockpit. Also, have you looked for any aftermarket parts?

Get someone to rev the motor when you've got your head in the bonnet. I think you'll find the "Tsh!" comes from the front offside. If it does it's induction, not a BOV

You guys do know the Tjet has an electrically-operated recirculating BOV as standard, and with an induction kit the noise becomes more pronounced?

But mine seems to be much louder than anyone elses Bravo. Even the ones on youtube that have Baileys BOVs on them and stuff.

Hey whitebravo,

I thought with the older boxes you cannot change the setting??

Am I wrong???
