...Move it from one vehicle to another when selling and buying another
How much does this cost?

And how easy is to transfer if the car is written off?

Also how do I go about telling current insurance of a reg plate change? I assume I'd just call them, and say, its the same car but the number plate is now **** ***.? And do you think the gits will charge the £60 change of policy charge?

Thanks in advanced. Jon.

i had a 206 with my R12MUS plate on and wrote that off... i bought my punto and went to dvla and asked for the new plate swop over.. took a lil while but its easier when u still own the car!!

takes around 2 weeks and u dont pay to tell ur insurance about swop over.. just say i switched them over and i wanted to let u no!

hope that helps

Never been charged by insurance company to change the reg on the insurance. If you were to change private plate from one car to another because you sold one and bought another they charge I believe £120, but do get you new log book MOt and tax disc in the new number.

If you keep your plate on retention (a certificate which allows you to use the number at a later date as I am doing, they charge £25 per year).

If you have a plate on retention and then decide to transfer it to a car as I may do with the Pluriel they don't make an extra charge.

\hope the above helps and makes sense :D

transfer is £80 retention is £105.
Last time I checked anyway.

Took my private plate off Clio when I bought Pluriel earlier this year and put it on retention = £105. Transfer fee of £80 and 1 years retention @ £25 I guess

It sais on the retention certificate that transfer fee for putting on next car is already paid, so not that sure how their pricing structure works LOL.

When I transferred plate from Clio to Gande Punto in 2006 price was £120 as well. Who knows how the DVLA work.

I have a personalised plate have had it on retention approx 2 years now.

I had to pay a total of £105 (£80 transfer fee + £25 retention fee), then on every anniversary it's £25 to keep it on retention.

I will be putting my plates on my panda later this year and as far as I was told 2 years ago it's another £80 transfer fee to put the plate on the new car.

Hi.

Check your retention document, mine sais - and I quote - "The assignment fee has already been paid" (y) You may just save your self £80. Better in your pocket . . . .

When I purchased my punto from a gargae they did it all for me. I just paid them and signed something

When I px'd the punto another garage wouldnt do it for me so had to do it myself. I went to dvla office and took all my bits with me(v5, mot, ins, tax disk). filled in a form handed over the money and within a week I had all new docs through

MY insurance charged me £25 to update my details, I moaned and was 'let off'

I just paid £25 to retain my numberplate, I would like to put it on my current car but I always thinking about changing it

Thanks for all the replys. I think I've got the hang of this now. By plate for £250 inc £80 transfer fee and put on Panda.

Then call insurance, tell them of change, How do I then go about getting tax changed to new plate? Its got 10 months left? Do I just go to a DVLA office (Norwich's my nearest) and they change it? Is this charged for?

Say then in 4 years time Panda is sold or written of, I go to DVLA and pay £80 to move it to another car, or £105 to have a bit of paper saying its mine? If put onto retention (bit of paper, all technical terms, lol) I pay £25 a year to keep it on it until I put onto a car.

Think I've got it. So its £80 every time I move it from car to car. I was told by a friend it was £80 when brought and then on £20 to move it from car to car:(.

Dunno if I can be hassled with a personalised plate now. Plates only worth £170. lol.

Jon.

I think you got the hang of it.

The DVLA arrange for new tax disc with new numberplate on for you, which will have whatever tax remaining you had on the original disc, along with new log book and MOT with new number on. This is done for you - included in the fee you paid them to transfer.

Am keeping mine on retention still. Keep toying (excuse the pun) of putting
N90 TOY on Pluriel but really can't decide. How long will I have the car ? ?

Stick it on the Panda, thats a toy, lol. Thats the only thing putting me off, how long will I have the car. I don't plan on selling it just yet, but can't see myself with it for more than 5 years. Then again:rolleyes:

Can't put it on the Panda , she's an M reg and you can't make cars appear newer than they are !

If I could I would, if only I could find another N reg Panda then . . .

BUMP

Right I'm bring this back up, because have another Linked question which I never asked initially.

Right Dad's 1000CL Panda has an Irish (ageless of course) plate on it which we like the look of. Now we're going to be getting rid of the 1000CL and so want to transfer the plate onto his new Selecta.

Where do I have to go to get the forms to transfer? Is there something on the log book (I don't think there is) or have I got to go to the post office to get something?

Many thanks in advanced.

Jon. (y)

Sorry, another question

Does the car your putting the plate onto have to be taxed/MOTed?
Also what about the donor car?

Just going to be transfering ia plate from one Panda to another Panda. The recipient Panda will have tax, but no MOT, and the donor Panda will have MOT but not Tax (just to make it all nice and confusing)

Thanks. Jon.
