Technical Passenger Side Brake Pedal Suprise

you dont really want to be putting your feet up there in any car, lots off stuff is up there in many cars, heater motor conectors, control units for various electrical bits an bobs, fuel cut off switches and body computers, you could end up kicking all sorts of stuff that will cost a lot of money to fix

I don't know if they've modified the design, but my 11 reg car has a flat bar running from the driver's side acrooss the very top of the passenger footwell, which goes into a stout plastic housing. You wouldn't naturally put your foot there, but I did (ignition on, car stationary) and by pressing hard I couldn't get the brake lights on. Actually I can't see how this could apply the brakes as by pushing on it you could deflect it forwards slightly (it's quite substantial) but the brake pedal moves it sideways. I suppose if a passenger stood on it really hard they could impede the braking action, but most unlikely. I'm not losing sleep...

If I put my hand between the manifold and radiator on the car when the engine is hot I'll burn my hand. It isn't however a stupid design it'd be stupid me for putting my hand there. Same here. Ram your foot where is shouldn't go and it'll cause issues (y)

Funny that, I can put my feet up in the footwell of my Yaris and it doesn't have any effect on the car's behaviour...

:p

So what? You could kick a yorkshire terrier and feel no ill effects but try it with a vicious breed of dog and you might regret it. The point is you shouldn't kick any dog and you shouldn't stick your feet up where they aren't needed.

Oh and anyway, Toyota's are native RHD cars so your car won't have a bar running just inside the bulkhead.....

It was a joke  I've not tried putting my feet up behind the dash in it and never will!

I'm just saying though, the sort of person who feels they should be able to stick their feet up under the dash and treat the car like a loungeroom will take your post as some sort of evidence that the car has a fault when the only fault is with them.

Well the most popular model is the 'Lounge' so maybe they're taking it too literally? ;)

On a more serious note it's good to see that they seem to have covered the area up now. It's been reported on here a few times so it's clearly not something that is isolated to this one occasion and it's good to see Fiat taking notice before they have a lawsuit on their hands!
