Technical Side lights

With headlights off only one side light is on. Get yellow warning light.

Turn headlights on and both side lights come on. So not the bulb.

Wondering if this is likely to be a simple wiring/connector issue or something more complicated?

There are various builds / specs of 500 lighting confusingly.

There may well be a similar thread listed below this.. Adding details, and fixes

Do you mean side light or DRL lamps?- DRL lamps are twin filament so if one goes out the warning comes up! the bulbs are a fiddly P.IT.A to fit!.

New bulb type 580 and all will be fixed, can be easier to remove the wheel, note its often a good idea to cable tie the hatch in the inner wing guard in place by drilling holes in it, also firmly attach the rubber cover on the rear of the light cluster, can be easier to turn the holder with the wrong hand or a spanner

What age is this 500?

The 5W fillament will be Ok (sidelight) the 21W (DRL) not. As above: new bulb (or even better both sides) and all will be well.
