General Panda's at Chiltern Hills Rally 19th May?

I was thinking that if we all met at your house Gavin for the first run in there would then be enough of use to go back and bring what's left in one more trip.

This is part of a message I've just sent to Gavin, assuming there are six cars (A through F); and three drivers (Gavin, Bob, et moi...):

homeward said:
If the five cars doesn't include mine -- and there's three of us -- then I'm not so sure it can be done....

  1. Cars A, B and C drive there, individually; car C drives back, with all three drivers.
  2. Cars C, D, E drive there, individually... -- if the five includes Pippin: job done; otherwise... -- car C drives back, with two drivers.
  3. If not... -- cars C and F drive there, individually. Job (really) done.
Does this make sense?

So, the question is: how many cars, with how many drivers...? :bang:

Hi folks,

The biggest issue is getting the first batch of cars in place early. The show fills up early and it's a case of making sure they give us enough space. I really don't want an early start (and I'm starting from here!!) but it's silly to get there and have problems - this is why I wanted the first wave there by about 8.30.

Meeting here is ideal. All or nearly all the cars will be here - one Panda is in Aylesbury but I might be able to bring that over - have to think about that as I have a :bang: headache.........

Cars to go to the show are (I think):

Panda's - Pinky, Oslo, Sisley, Pippin, Howie, Jasper & the white 45CL (possibly called Casper!). Bob's 500. That's 8 I think. (The 2 others booked will sort themselves out).

If Vernon, Barbara, Bob & Stephen are able to get to me, we will have 5 drivers making it quite easy  5 cars go to the show, 4 are left, and one drives back with 3 other drivers, then the 4 remaining cars go back to the show. Does that work, and why does this sound like a maths question - 3 apples are left I think :D

Sounds good to me! (y)

  • Drivers A B C D E take Cars 1 2 3 4 5; leaving Driver A, and Cars 1 2 3 4, at the rally.
  • Drivers B C D E return in Car 5.
  • Drivers B C D E take Cars 5 6 7 8. Huzzah!

I know it's a slightly strange request: but can Pippin and I be Driver E, in Car 5, please? Because of my various infirmities, it takes me a while to adjust to a new car: and I'd rather not be responsible for knackering either someone-else's clutch, or my own LSD (as in diff -- meaning my neck... -- not drugs...).

That way, you can all laugh at my lousy gearchanges.... :p

PS: My dad was a maths teacher; and, as I remember, the answer was always three bananas, a pineapple, and sixteen kumquats.... :p

That sounds great - thanks (y)

I don't think we had kumquats when I were a lad though........ ;)

Well Pinky is now over with me & looking forward to the Chiltern Hills on Sunday. (y)

He went much better than I expected VmanC - the engine sounds good and everything was smoother than Chiaro (3rd is starting to crunch if you're a hooligan I think - not that I was you understand  ). Although he felt quick, he didn't quite have Chiaro's edge & lost a lot more speed up the top of the Marlow bypass than Chiaro does - I was down to 70 at one point!!!

He does feel very PINK . I had a load of cyclists pointing and shouting at one point - I think it was in a good way..........

Yes I agree. Chairo does have more top end power for some reason, maybe it's down to better compression as Chairo has nearly 100,000 miles less on the clock.

I've had a tinker and Chairos engine is now as smooth as Pinky,s :) The big tyres are stressing the suspension so it still doesn't ride as smooth as Pinky but its still pretty good!

(y) Better not make him too good though, or I may find an excuse to keep him!! As you've probably gathered I find it easier to buy than sell, and he's been a good little Panda

I have a rattle can of paint for Chiaro somewhere for if/when he becomes yours. You've got his name slightly wrong - it's ia in the middle (Chiaro = light coloured) - he said it's ok as you've been kind, but don't let it happen again :spin:

I MIGHT be able to come. I've managed to get a sister to look after my poorly Mother for the weekend. My main issue now is money, with my Mum being ill I haven't been able to do many work shifts.

How much is it to get in on the day? If I can afford to get up there and get her in I'll come.

It's £10 on the day. The link to the event website is in my first post & directions etc are in there. Hope you can make it (y)

Sorry Chiaro!

Better bring that paint and the V5 along on Sunday I think. ;)

I couldn't work out whether to like or dislike the last one Vernon!

Anyway the monsoon, floods, hurricane and snowdrifts forecast earlier in the week seem to have vanished. The forecast has been slowly getting better over the last couple of days, and now seems to be suggesting dry (probably)

The best plan is for everyone to bring their waterproofs and arctic clothing, then we may get a decent day tomorrow. Fingers crossed (y)

See you all tomorrow bright and early - I'll only manage early by the way - bright won't come into it at 7.30/8.00am

:bang: Sorry!! With all the car cleaning action yesterday I presumed it was today! Plenty of time to get your fleet cleaned up then Gavin (y) :p

I guess you're not coming across tomorrow then - I'm quick me! :D

Well there's clean and homeward obsessive!! Pinky will have to stay as is - he's meant to be showing he needs resto anyway so that's ok...

The other 3 are getting as little as I think I can get away with, as I may keel over with exhaustion otherwise. :dead:

A little test for everyone tomorrow to see how much is strictly necessary. Background is 2 were absolutely filthy and not cleaned/polished for months. One dusty/dirty and not polished for ages. Tomorrow you will see:

1 a Panda which has been washed and left to its own devices - no polish, potions or lotions.

2 a Panda which has been washed and Meguiars Quikwaxed rather than anything complicated or properly polishy. No special bumper stuff or glass stuff - just Quikwaxed on anything that didn't move.

3. A Panda which has had the dust taken off with a Meguiars big fluffy stick thing (I forget the name) then quickly Quikwaxed over everything. Again no proper polishy stuff.

Which is which? Cup of coffee if you can get them all right! (y) I think you'll spot the one which has been left but maybe not the others.....

Well there's clean and homeward obsessive!!

Obsessive? Moi?

I have yet to take the seats out, and the big rubber bin liner that counts as luxury in a 750L, and wax the inside.... :D

...a Meguiars big fluffy stick thing (I forget the name)...

I think you'll find it's Reginald....
