General Panda's at Chiltern Hills Rally 19th May?

Just got back from a very tiring but very enjoyable show.

Huge thanks to homeward scout500 Panda Mo tipomike & VmanC for their help and good humour :worship:

Somehow we managed to get 2 x mk1 Panda's, 5 x mk2 Panda's, a mk4 Panda, a Tipo Sedici, and a 500C there between us - there was also a 124 Spyder and 126, but not sure if there are any pics. (y)

The weather stayed fine all day, and by mid afternoon was blazing hot - so much for this week's weather forecast!!

A selection of photos are below. There are more in my album & a few more to add later which Mike has just sent to me. The cars were a bit squashed in so sorry for the odd bits missing - 2 Panda tents too - you don't get that often :slayer:

It's worth looking at this thread later or tomorrow, for a moment of pure Pandamonium involving Vernon. It will take hours to sort as it's a short video - you won't be disappointed, and we are hoping for a large payout from You've Been Framed. Keep watching............ :D

Edit: Mike's photos below (y)

A little test for everyone tomorrow to see how much is strictly necessary. Background is 2 were absolutely filthy and not cleaned/polished for months. One dusty/dirty and not polished for ages. Tomorrow you will see:

1 a Panda which has been washed and left to its own devices - no polish, potions or lotions.

2 a Panda which has been washed and Meguiars Quikwaxed rather than anything complicated or properly polishy. No special bumper stuff or glass stuff - just Quikwaxed on anything that didn't move.

3. A Panda which has had the dust taken off with a Meguiars big fluffy stick thing (I forget the name) then quickly Quikwaxed over everything. Again no proper polishy stuff.

Which is which? Cup of coffee if you can get them all right! (y) I think you'll spot the one which has been left but maybe not the others.....[/QUOTE]

Great photos!

I recon 1 is white MK1 panda

2 is your Sisley

3 blue MK2

Looks like a great day out!!

What a great day  fun and frolics in the Bucks countryside. You guys have confirmed what I have suspected for a long time. "You get a better class of loony driving a Panda". I'll have to see if Vern can work his magic and turn the badges on my 500 to read PANDA. Don't get me wrong I would not dream of getting rid of the 500 but just prefer to hang out with the lunatic fringe :D

I have to echo all of the above, from Bob and Gavin.... What a fantastic day out...! And the sun shone...! :D

Thank you to Palio, for organizing it; and letting me sneak in at the last moment; to VmanC for suitable Panda-based entertainment; to scout500 for just being great company; and everyone else that was there...! (y)

So tired, though (having gotten up at 05:00...): so photos will have to wait until tomorrow -- but I think the above ones are probably as (very) good as they get, anyway...! :worship:

BTW: for fans of Pinky -- driving him is a great way of making yourself popular; and, yes, a 750L can carry four grown men, and still accelerate...! ;)

Well despite the trip demolishing the Sisleys rear diff bearings it really was a great day out at a quality classic car show with some equally great fellow Panda-ists, whether they owned one or not everyone was a Panda-ist at heart. (y)

Getting the cars to the show allowed for some of us to sample driving certain vehicles for the first time. My own firsts were driving scout500's twin air, and first time back seat passenger in a Panda ( Homeward's Pippin). Also back seat passenger and first time in a Punto Abarth ( Palio's).

I'm a bit late with this as I turned left when we got to the M25 while Barbara and Oslo turned right and went straight home. I had to force the poor old Sisley to soldier on to Enfield so that I could pick up some Fiat wheels I'd won on eBay. :)

Don't know why the Sisley rear diff should suddenly fail so spectacularly but it has, will have to investigate further. :(

I too have some pics that will have to wait till tomorrow, but agree that the ones already posted are as good as they come.

Of course! Would hate to think I grazed my head for nothing. :p

Thought I'd better check!! (y)

Just so you know, Vernon was trying to walk alongside the Sisley to listen to a noise from the rear diff. Unfortunately the Sisley decided to go at a canter and Vernon had to jog to keep up - by the time we had fumbled for the phone, Vernon had done half a lap of the field, and this was the return journey past the laughing hyenas........

Sorry you cut your head Vernon, I think we forgot to be sympathetic too

VmanC are we authorised to show your diff diagnostic abilities to the adoring masses? ;)
I think we owe it to the general populace to highlight this mans obviously highly tuned abilities :D

And scout500 - lunatic fringe???!!! I think you'll find Panda owners are mainstream lunatics, nothing remotely fringey about it in most cases :p
Fair point well made

I'm so sad I couldn't make it :(

As for a 750 being able to accelerate with a full load I'm not sure I believe you.
Today was the first day I'd had 5 passengers, I don't know where you found acceleration homeward but I certainly couldn't find it in any of the gears.

Six people in a Panda! that's just abuse!

You have to drive it like an Italian/you mean it...! After trying to keep up with Palio, VmanC (and Barbara), and scout500, rolling their Pandas through the Buckinghamshire countryside, I must have been inspired...! (I also got up to an indicated 80 -- 75, according to the GPS -- on the M40, on the way home; and Pippin's still returning 40 to the gallon...!) :D

PS: Don't ever drive on the A41, going north to the M40... -- I have never encountered so many potholes in my life....

I was actually going relatively slowly in the Panda's  If you really know the roads you can build up as much speed as possible in the Panda & fling them through the corners - the idea being to lose as little speed as possible (and to shake off the inevitable BM monstrosity X whatever on your tailgate!). The lower the power in your Panda the more The Italian method works (y)

Don't mention the roads  Mum uses that main road to get home & you should see the B roads!! One of many very good reasons to buy the Panda 4x4 - you barely notice the bombed out roads which makes a lovely change compared to anything I own :worship:

Having 'learned' the route a little; and having the advantage of the larger engine (although not as good suspension... -- sorry...), I did find this easier in Pinky, on the return journey, I have to say. His clutch is also either in better condition than mine, or in a better place for my gammy ankle... -- although I obviously had to change gear a lot less than in Pippin...! [I now can't wait to get my hands on Betty.... (Insert appropriate Kenneth Williams phrase here.)]
